So did Land Rover, Series 1, 2, 2A 88" or 109 1 ton. There is a hole in the rear bumper for PTO shaft. 2.25L petrol old school, dynamo, points ignition, single barrel zenith carb, jump seats (folding). There is lots around unfourtunantly a good portion have been modded with some other gearbox and diesal engine. The whole drive train as well, wheels, axles brakes....
Looses a lot of value when that happens, the only thing usually original left is the body, which in LR Series is aluminum.
Since the VW Beetle was air cooled, I hope that engine has a really strong filter on the intake. This is an older VW (judging by the size of the tail lights), but it seems to have a 60s era California license plate (black with yellow characters). I speculate it could be owned by some 60s hippie commune doing the "back to nature" thing. Hippies were generally worthless, but a few did mean well and walked the walk.

Fascinating. My first two cars were a '63 bug and a '70 squareback. I don't ever remember cleaning the oil bath, but considering my lack of experience with auto mechanics, it's not surprising. I'm sure my dad would have shown me, but perhaps he didn't know, or possibly they used a standard replaceable air filter. This looks like a very simple solution with easy maintenance.
They don't require much maintenance and you can even use your motor oil when you do an oil change, but most of the time people just got the new fangled paper ones. After they slapped on a pair of webbers.
Before he gave me his '63 bug, my dad installed a Franz oil filter, which he mounted under the seat in the back. That bug always had good oil quality, and a change only took four quarts and a roll of toilet paper.
