I love live oaks. One of my favorite things about the Georgia coast. Shame about all the niggers in Savannah.

Good picture PeckerwoodPerry. I hope you found some peace while on your hike. I know that I usually do when I'm out inawoods.

Definitely did. Nothing like walking around the forest barefoot for a couple hours to lift your spirits.

did you throw rocks at the water moccasin?

Lol, that reminds me of a story. Took my mother inlaw to a nice nature spot here and the crazy bitch started throwing rocks at gators. She was walking off the path and I had to grab her before she stepped on a water moccasin. She was one step away from it. My wife did almost the same thing, damn near stepped on a pygmy rattlesnake. Proof positive women need men, I don't know how they don't see snakes.

Then an otherworldly screech disturbs the tranquility -

looks more like a water oak. Live oaks typically start to branch out at the 6 foot mark and grow down.

It was definitely a live oak. We don't have water oaks here. Mostly just sweetgum, live oak, loblolly pines, and magnolias. I'm not an arborist by any means, but I know what a live oak looks like.
