The Peter principle is a concept in management developed by Laurence J. Peter, which observes that people in a hierarchy tend to rise to "a level of respective incompetence": employees are promoted based on their success in previous jobs until they reach a level at which they are no longer competent, as skills in one job do not necessarily translate to another.
If you are too good at your current job, you ain't moving up unless you kiss ass a lot.
20 years ago I refinished antique wood floors. I was good at it. Worked by myself. And made $1K a week. The contractor employed his cousin and brother in law who were both high non stop. Got to work late. Took a long pot smoking lunch and left early every day. I got more done with much better quality than they did working by myself. One day they were snooping through the bosses desk and saw my check. They got a case of the ass and I spelled it out for them. Fukn slackers. If I got done early on Friday the boss would ask me to go help them. I'd tell him I didn't bust ass all week to help those fuckers.

I just quit my job for this reason, I've been doing the extra workload of lazy people for 3 years, my supervisor knew, my manager knew and the general manager knew but did nothing. when I gave notice the GM finally offered me a pay rise, I told him it's too late I've already signed a contract for $20 an hour more than I get now, the look on his face was priceless
In my career I sold a very specialized software package that you had to be able to relate to the many oddities of the business it was designed to work for. IOW, you actually had to be able to learn the client's business and the features of the software, and connect the two. So my employers said, "Shit, let's make old James the sales manager and he'll sprinkle his fairy dust all over the newbies and they'll be successful too." Huge mistake. Absolutely a huge fucking mistake. I didn't realize this right at first but it didn't take long for me to wake up.
Moral is: if you are good at something, don't waste your time trying to teach someone else how you do it. Corporate America is lazy and profoundly dishonest nowadays.

Insightful when Americans are the only people in the English-speaking world that can't spell in English but try to correct the proper spelling of English words.
You are the most useless poster on tlol, fuck off back to AOUs camp.
And stop tying salary to position. That lower level employees have some arbitrary de facto pay cap is stupid and nonsensical. All it does is propagate the problems lined out in The Peter Principle.
I know places where salary is based more on seniority and anyways everyone gets stock so if you work there long enough you own a piece of the company, which provides income in itself. No outsiders can own stock, so technically you'd be employee owned. Of course some people own vastly more than others but generally in line with tenure.

Which implies you aren't doing your job enough to get/keep good at it.
