Well my grampa hes 95, he keeps on dancing, he's still alive. Well my grandma, she's 92, she likes to dance, and sing some too. Well I don't know, but I been told, if you keep on dancing, you'll never grow old. So come on darlin, put a pretty dress on, we're having a Guitar Thread its Friday Night!

Once again, it's time for the FNGT!

If you don't know how this works, click this link. That link will take you to another site to give you some additional information and tell you about some of our off-site features. That's also the site where we will host the weekly guitar threads, should Talk.lol go down.

NOTE: That site is by invitation only. If you want an invite, ask a regular participant (such as @TheRealBuddha or myself)

If you already know what's going on, you probably don't need to click any of those links. You can still visit to see if any changes have been made, as that's also where we kept the archives and have a second forum.

By the way, we're down to just two of us. If you want to help, let us know.

My friend Chris came over this week and we jammed out and drank beer all night long.

Here were are playing Steve Millers song Dance, Dance, Dance

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 4 points 11 monthsJun 9, 2023 20:06:14 ago (+4/-0)

LOL I used that same headline about a month ago! It's a great headline and a lovely song.

I actually have been planning on covering it and have a banjo player lined up to do that part of the recording!

Now I don't know if I should follow through? I probably should.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 4 points 11 monthsJun 9, 2023 20:08:10 ago (+4/-0)

I figured since we actually played it I am using the title again. I didn't think it mattered or you would mind!

Did you hear my bitchin solo?

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 4 points 11 monthsJun 9, 2023 20:15:44 ago (+4/-0)

I did! LOL All songs should have a bitchin' solo! It should be mandatory - except when the whole song is a bitchin' solo.

Great job! I like his music more after going back and listening to the older tracks I have. I had started listening post Fly Like An Eagle and was surprised at the difference. Great picking!

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 2 points 11 monthsJun 10, 2023 00:23:34 ago (+2/-0)

At the difference in you're playing you mean?

[ - ] popticalillusion 2 points 11 monthsJun 10, 2023 01:19:53 ago (+2/-0)

Well, that too because i could appreciate the music more. But I started listening to his music from 1976 on and it wasn't until a few years ago I was able to get albums as far back as 1968. I think he must have learned a bit from Les Paul that helped him get going in the music business.

Loves me some Steve miller

[ - ] popticalillusion 3 points 11 monthsJun 9, 2023 20:13:05 ago (+3/-0)

I had to do some direct recording, from the amp to the computer, so I picked an easy tune to get used to the new method of recording. AC/DC Dirty Deeds

There are some advantages to recording this way no outside noise on the tracks and no amp noise means I can record anytime of day I wish.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 1 point 11 monthsJun 9, 2023 20:24:37 ago (+1/-0)

Your guitar sounds great!

[ - ] popticalillusion 2 points 11 monthsJun 9, 2023 20:44:35 ago (+2/-0)

Thanks! I didn't have the play-through function set when I recorded, and kinda got lucky. I need to learn how to change the sound on them vocal tracks in MuseScore though; it sounds like an oboe. I did practice the lead guitar this time, but still have too much difficulty getting up to speed right before the pull-offs at the end.

[ - ] ChatGPT 1 point 11 monthsJun 9, 2023 23:38:33 ago (+1/-0)

Oh well, what are gonna do. It's midi sound. You get that sound on songsterr. It gets the point across.

I love musescore. I used for the tab on the song I posted tonight. Had to figure out the tab from YT and songsterr and my own opinion.

[ - ] popticalillusion 1 point 11 monthsJun 10, 2023 01:27:55 ago (+1/-0)

Oh, nice use of the available resources and your own abilities to get it done. Kids today have it easy looking for ways to learn. LOL

I like to edit the scores some, when I feel the need. I think I will see what different voicings the vocal tracks have on the next one. I wanted something deep during the last 'dirty deeds done dirt cheap' but settled on adding some delay and making go 4 times instead of just 2.

I don't have anything new - but I have something that's definitely new to this site.

I don't play weddings, but I made an exception at one wedding - which was my own. I had my band there and it seemed like a good thing to do.

This isn't really a song, it's just us jamming out. You should enjoy it:

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 3 points 11 monthsJun 9, 2023 20:11:14 ago (+3/-0)

Hell yeah, thats a fucking jam!

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 2 points 11 monthsJun 9, 2023 20:17:21 ago (+2/-0)

Amusingly, by this part of the reception we were all pretty fucking hammered.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 2 points 11 monthsJun 9, 2023 20:23:47 ago (+2/-0)

Sounds like you were having a blast!

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 2 points 11 monthsJun 9, 2023 20:43:10 ago (+2/-0)

You are not wrong. It was a blast.

We went from solemn teary eyed to drunken merriment in fairly short order.

It was pretty much the best day ever! It wasn't that large, just family and some friends. I think we had less than 150 people total. That includes people we hired for the event, from photographers to videographers, catering, etc...

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 2 points 11 monthsJun 9, 2023 20:45:12 ago (+2/-0)

Thats all you need! Love is all you need!

And back to the video we were talking about earlier. His playing reminds me of yours when hes shredding

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 2 points 11 monthsJun 9, 2023 20:56:12 ago (+2/-0)

That's kinda why I like him. He's got some skills. It's not too much shredding for just shredding reasons, it's a melodic shredding that fits the piece and intended statement nicely.

Also, he looks the part.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 2 points 11 monthsJun 9, 2023 21:06:07 ago (+2/-0)

Hell yeah! Having an overall melody to it makes it a cut above most

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 2 points 11 monthsJun 9, 2023 21:16:45 ago (+2/-0)

He's got some tour dates coming up, and I kind of want to go - but I hate flying commercial and flying to Europe on a charter flight is gonna be a whole lot of money I'd rather spend elsewhere. I guess I could tie it into other stuff...

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 2 points 11 monthsJun 9, 2023 21:36:19 ago (+2/-0)

He doesn't have any dates in America?

[ - ] popticalillusion 3 points 11 monthsJun 10, 2023 00:42:44 ago (+3/-0)

That's awesome! It gave me Hendricks Flashbacks for a minute then became it's own wailing solo with great sound for recording it live. I miss my old wah-wah pedal. Maybe if I ever pull off any leads properly I will get another, but not until I prove to myself I can make use of it. LOL

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 2 points 11 monthsJun 10, 2023 11:25:46 ago (+2/-0)

Thanks! I was very, very drunk at the time. I'm pretty sure we were all pretty drunk at that time.

We were playing VERY loud at the time. It was so loud that I'm thinking (it was ages ago) that it was recorded with a cell phone. I'm not actually sure and way too lazy to dig into it to see. We might have plugged in a board and recorded from that. It was quite a while back.

[ - ] ChatGPT 2 points 11 monthsJun 9, 2023 23:23:28 ago (+2/-0)

What up. I played this negro song. It's a good guitar song, I think. Pretty fun to play once you get up to speed, which takes a while.
You Got to Walk That Lonesome Valley aka Lonesome Valley

[ - ] popticalillusion 2 points 11 monthsJun 10, 2023 00:52:15 ago (+2/-0)

That's a great sounding recording on that acoustic. Since my microphone is crapped out, I should invest in a much better sounding one. It didn't record as well as I had hoped anyway, when I used the acoustic guitar. Great playing too!

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 1 point 11 monthsJun 10, 2023 00:22:33 ago (+1/-0)

Sounds great! Nice to see you again! Hope everything is all right

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 2 points 11 monthsJun 9, 2023 22:46:23 ago (+2/-0)

This one is such a melancholy song. Southbound Train

[ - ] popticalillusion 2 points 11 monthsJun 10, 2023 00:59:13 ago (+2/-0)

Pretty good! It seems like I should know this song, but I can't place it. LOL I like your back up singer jumping in there, she should do more with you.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 2 points 11 monthsJun 10, 2023 01:06:48 ago (+2/-0)

That's my crazy sexy girlfriend!

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 2 points 11 monthsJun 9, 2023 20:56:27 ago (+2/-0)

Here is a Tom Petty song we jammed the other night, 13 Days

[ - ] popticalillusion 2 points 11 monthsJun 10, 2023 00:24:19 ago (+2/-0)

Oh, wow! That one's really good. I'm sure I have the original in the music library, so now I'm going to have to give it a listen. I love his song writing and the music they made.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 1 point 11 monthsJun 10, 2023 00:27:15 ago (+1/-0)

Tom Petty was terrific

Here is another one from the other night. This one my woman sang the Bob Wills part on the old, old classic, San Antonio Rose

[ - ] ChatGPT 2 points 11 monthsJun 9, 2023 23:45:41 ago (+2/-0)

Good song. Famous as hell back it the day. Famous for changing country to a more popish sound.

[ - ] popticalillusion 2 points 11 monthsJun 10, 2023 00:30:32 ago (+2/-0)

First time that I've heard that one. It sounds pretty good. It sounds like they were having fun with it while you played and sang.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 2 points 11 monthsJun 10, 2023 00:42:08 ago (+2/-0)

Yeah we had fun

[ - ] Portmanure 2 points 11 monthsJun 9, 2023 20:08:19 ago (+2/-0)

I miss my grandma, I lost her at 83. She was old and lost to dementia, but when I walked in the room, she would say the word “Johnny” and give me a big hug. I miss you grandma. Hugs!

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 1 point 11 monthsJun 9, 2023 22:10:32 ago (+1/-0)

[ - ] popticalillusion 2 points 11 monthsJun 10, 2023 01:05:29 ago (+2/-0)

Nice! Is that an original or just another I haven't heard before?

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 2 points 11 monthsJun 10, 2023 01:08:00 ago (+2/-0)

No that's some country song that Chris knew. I never heard it before and I don't know who did it.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 1 point 11 monthsJun 9, 2023 21:37:21 ago (+1/-0)

We played all night, as I said earlier, here we are playing Stay A Little Longer

[ - ] popticalillusion 2 points 11 monthsJun 10, 2023 01:12:17 ago (+2/-0)

It sounds like a lot of fun at your gatherings. LOL I kinda miss the days where I had enough friends living nearby to do these kind of things. I'll see what my situation is like 2 months from now and maybe I'll be lucky enough to find someone to play some music with then.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 2 points 11 monthsJun 10, 2023 01:38:24 ago (+2/-0)

I am lucky to have met these great friends to jam with. My friend was actually conceived with his parents hearing me play my guitar through their bedroom window. I was his parents neighbor at the time.
