People have not liked tans for the last 20 years ever since doctors have scared everybody to death and told them they have to slather their skin with poisonous sunscreen to prevent themselves from getting the necessary vitamin D to keep their immune systems healthy. So I don't know where this statement that Americans love a tan is coming from. Americans used to like a tan up until probably the early 80s but they haven't liked the tan since then.
