Actually they had the rights when they bought FOX. The producer had to fight Disney to get the distribution rights back for a film they weren't going to release.

Worse than that, they bought the rights and held onto them. I believe angel studios had to fight to get distribution rights from them. I wonder why there ever gave it up, honestly.
