Combustion engines produce 200+ psi, just from air compression alone. Add fuel and spark and that compression rises 15x. Or ~3,000 psi of pressure, an air engine can never compare to the power unleashed by burning shit. And this is just atmospheric compression, add forced induction and HOLY shit, add detonation and the pressure is high enough to launch pistons through the cylinder head.
