Dude is three years into college with a double major. Wants to go to law school and has decided to take a couple of years after he graduates to work and pay off his current student loans while saving to cash flow law school. Fucking smart kid. I’m really proud of him!
He's better to go right to law school after he finishes undergraduate. Has he chosen his law school? Does he know what sub specialty he wants to concentrate?
He’s mentioned something about JAG. He’s also considering getting the military pay for his law schooling. He could enter as an officer. I don’t know how all that works.
He’s mentioned something about JAG. He’s also considering getting the military pay for his law schooling
this used to be a safe pathway to get a career not long ago but with the current climate. i would ask you to tell him to reconsider. its not worth it being sent overseas just to comeback inside a casket and just because he wanted more money.
Yeah, I’m not down with the military thing, but I’m not in his ear enough to plant seeds quite yet. I mean the whole ‘our military works for Israel’ thing. It’s a little early.
yeah you dont need to redpill him right away just talk to him because the risks of being a military man. its not just the fact that he may die for the MIC but also he could be subject for all types of experiments if they higher ups deems so.
point in case the CONvid vaxx. most military people were ordered in to taking this poison and if they refused then they would have been expelled or court martialed.
tell him to talk to gulf veterans. they got the anthrax vaxx and got fucked up big time. also those were exposed to depleted uranium munitions that gave them the gift of cancers.
I don’t remember the guys name. Iv seen a couple vids online. It’s probably a terrible idea but I like his philosophy. Just get into debt and fuck it. Don’t even worry about it. I mean the moneys not even real right. So why worry about it.
If he's an outstanding individual and litigation/defense doesn't appeal to him, going into real estate law could be his golden ticket. As an attorney, he can offer more in some scenarios than a typical title company can offer. If he's willing to go above and beyond, he'll shine bright (and it won't always be like that, but being young and putting in that work will establish a great reputation for himself).
My parents and I have recently discussed moving my ass into a small home. "Tiny home" kind of home. Maybe 1000 square feet.
Then when I'm making upwards of $100k (Realistically speaking, in about a year to two years: $120k-$150k), I can throw every dime I've got at paying off college and that little home.
Theeeen I can save up for a fucking ridiculous house build (Could even go to $400k... Look at houses in Tulsa for $400k. They're fucking nice.), a corvette because I've always wanted one, and then I can give a middle finger to the world while taking care of what family I've got while also enjoying the flexibility of my job.

my relative lives in a million dollar home. her shanty has 8 bedrooms 4 baths with all the modern shit that you can think of. a nice backyard and more. property taxes are a pain to deal with but between her and her hubby's job they can afford the place.
yeah man if you got the money why not. plan ahead but also dont forget that sometimes adversity may strike so plan for that too. i would hate to see a fellow goat in the streets because he/she over-expended themselves
my relative lives in a million dollar home. her shanty has 8 bedrooms 4 baths with all the modern shit that you can think of. a nice backyard and more.
DAYUM.
I've been in a couple 1mil homes. They kinda ruined me on what a "nice house" is. 😂 That's one of the downsides of being an appraiser... You get a very good sense of what is actually nice.
So I'm kind of ruined in that aspect... Still, with no debt and wanting to build a house here in Oklahoma for about $400k... For a single guy? I could have something decent sized and really slick. The corvettes actually aren't all that crazy, I customized one on Chevrolet's site and it came out to about $69k. It's stock performance, but I mean... I'm not racing it so why waste money on performance? I just enjoy the aesthetic.
Pair that with a cheap Ford Ranger when I wanna go hunting, fishing, or need to go off in the sticks for an appraisal and yeah.... Yeah, it's gonna be cool.
The crazy thing is, I could very reasonably have all this at or even within 5 years from now. I'll be 29 and will have "made it".
I'm fucking excited, personal-life wise. The bigger picture constantly nags at me though, and for everything I gain I get pangs of guilt and sadness for what the innocent have lost.
Oh well... Best I can do is just stick to the plan and try to enjoy life a bit.
And sorry, I don't mean to sound like I'm bragging. I'm just fucking excited. I'm well on my way to having everything I've reasonably wanted since I was very young. Like 10. Always had an idea of what life would look like by the time I was a "young old guy" (10 year old brain at work there... Lol) and it's right fucking there. All of my life, a lot of work, and more to come, and it's about to make that dream manifest.
Well, apart from a family of my own, but you can't have it all, right? Too late to turn back now, I already traded the chances I may have had for staying the course and playing the long game, sticking with God and my parents' advice.
How are you accomplishing this? Already ahead of me and others due to two parents who do ok, but tondo that well is impressive.
I know yank bucks ain't worth much and general inflation is worse, so I tend to half the amount for a more accurate example here and that's still pretty good. Above average anyway and better still for the age.
With a lot of luck, great parents, and... Hell, more luck I guess.
I've noticed over the years that things have a weird way of just working themselves out for me, for one reason or another. It's something that would take me a novel to explain, and I've got to get ready for work. If I remember I'll get back here and elaborate.
I know yank bucks ain't worth much and general inflation is worse
Eh, in NYC or California, yeah. Oklahoma isn't hit as hard by inflation in some ways because cost of living is already super low. Trouble is, average salary in my county is something like $32k. It's one of the poorest counties in the state. So you have this weird divide of the crackheads and layabouts who don't work, the folks who make something like $30k-$70k, and then the folks who make six figures on up. It's fucked because those folks in the middle try to act rich and dig a deep fucking hole they can't get out of, and they still pretend everything is fine. I get it, but man... Not a good plan.
I had the experience of growing up poorer-ish when I was little. Mom was a teacher, dad worked at a prison. Not exactly high paying stuff. Now though, they make put together something like $150k.
So naturally, I have to beat that number. 😂
But yeah, they've been super helpful. Hell, I still live with them. I feel bad about it sometimes, especially at my age, but these are different times and a lot of "kids" my age are doing the same thing if they can.
There's just a lot of factors like that which add up and here I am. All I've gotta do is do my job, learn what I can, don't go to prison, and don't get some dumbass pregnant.
All fairly easy rules to play by.
Above average anyway and better still for the age.
Definitely. It's surprising to me, honestly. I hoped I'd be in this position, but I didn't really expect it. Things just worked out.
Good for you man. It's good to see our brothers happy. Once you get settled in, women will probably come running. Find a nice, young one that's not too far gone.
Once you get settled in, women will probably come running.
Ehhhhhh... Nothing worth getting with, if anything at all. Options are already, as far as I can tell, at zero. Most young folks leave here, not stick around.
Oh well. I don't have any experience with that crazy shit anyway, probably best not to play with fire and stick to what I know. Can't have it all.
Don't feel guilty about it at all! You're a White young man who has everything going for you. Take nothing for granted, and be vigilant. Never relax. You'll do just fine in the coming years.
Yeah.... Idk man. I just feel bad, and if I've got nice stuff I don't want to ever come across as a guy who's rubbing it in everyone's face, but I'm betting I will.
Like, sorry, I just really wanted X thing, it ain't a status symbol.
You're a White young man who has everything going for you
Small picture, personal life, yeah. I do. I'm fucking lucky. Big picture though? That's the part that keeps me up at night.
Take nothing for granted
Of course not. I'll see and talk to plenty of reminders every day not to, just because of where I live and the job I have.
be vigilant. Never relax.
I've a bad habit of being the exact opposite of ignorant and relaxed, your advice is well taken and heeded already.
You'll do just fine in the coming years.
Odds are, yeah. It's grim and kinda fucked up, but if a recession hits it'll be even better because home prices will drop and with my job, I'll be working a lot of the usual stuff and foreclosures. More money in my pocket to use on something I can get for "pennies on the dollar", sort of. Ish. Kindasortaish.
It sounds like the difference between you and a multitude of others is that if you get yourself something really nice, it's for your enjoyment rather than to signal to others that you've "made it."
Good for you and your future. I like to know when goats are in good shape and doing well. I hope your good fortune spreads across tlol/new Voat.
It's hard to be an old man. Men are good for hard blue collar work for about 30 years. He either needs to plan retirement at 50, plan to get more into sales and management later, or get a job where he can work until 65. It's good he's planning the professional route. Professional work hits max earnings after 40 and this 40-65 range is where blue collar trades miss out. That said, the time value of money is real in this world and a high school student working $15/hr can buy as much retirement with one hour of work as a 64 year old making $300/hr (broad index fund investments grow faster than wages in almost all career paths). When he's young he should focus on building future earning power. He can always improve income potential as an older man but then he has less time to reap the benefits. Maybe a lawyer isn't the best choice, but getting the income sooner is better than later, and sometimes the debt is worth it.
Man he should re-think law school. The country is majorly oversaturated with lawyers. Your average attorney makes like 60-70k. An associate lawyer starting out needs to be some firms bitch for like 5-10 years working 70 hr weeks doing grunt work to make partner and have a hope of that law degree paying off. If you can't find a firm to take you on it's either the public defender or the DA's office.
If he gets into a high power law school and gets into corporate law that's a different story though. Getting on as chief counsel for a Corp down the road is a very good position.
If he goes to a real good school and knows a lot of people and really stands out maybe he can avoid all that BS. But having a law degree is not what it used to be.
Man he should re-think law school. The country is majorly oversaturated with lawyers. Your average attorney makes like 60-70k.
what kind of lawyer he wants to be? there are criminal and civil lawyers (property lawyers included)
if he wants to make money he has to get in a good law school, make friends in the banking/financial system and sign up for a big law firm. dude that's where the big bucks are at.
