So cool... I get em from the bug zapper half alive. Alive enough to shake the web though.

Good God man, what have you done?
Your creation will kill us all.
Someone get Japan on the horn, we need Godzilla to save the world!

Feed it more to make it massive.

Heh. We used to do this also when we lived in a place that had banana spiders around

FUCK banana spiders

looks like a good place for a molotov coctail. Seriously though, these ones are actually bro's. I have to move them to safer locations from time to time. I had a huge one set up on a bush right beside of the deck and moved it because it freaked everybody out. I just got her on my hand and took her to the garden.

Spiders are something that simultaneously fascinate me and disgust me. It's kind of like in the Alien movies, where the corporation is obsessed with the creature. I think: what a fascinating bit of formal and functional evolution, but, put thick glass between us, please.

Bug zapper captures mostly harmless insects, and makes all the diseased innards into a nice aerosol to breathe. No thanks.

Jesus Christ, what did you all do to piss God off?!

Oh hell fucking no.

Phobia = irrational fear

I ain’t afraid anyone or pretty much anything…, certainly not frightened by homosexuals

Spiders though…., rational or not, spiders terrify me, i freak right out!

Not insects, I actually like the insects that are not trying feed on my blood or flesh…, bees, wasps, hornets, hurt by they do not induce fright.

Spiders make me cry out like a little girl…., fuck them with fire

You have to develop the same mindset the ninja wasp has and your fear of spider will disappear. ninja wasps know exactly how to make big ass spiders their bitch. they are the honey badgers of wasps. they do not give one single fuck and no spider is badass enough to handle one. You can watch videos of the the wasp running into spider dens and the spider running out like FUCK THIS SHIT! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7CBQvaZbpU

I miss having that species in my yard. The chink Joro spiders displaced them, and they breed like crazy.

[ - ] bobdole9 1 point 1.7 yearsAug 9, 2023 09:11:29 ago (+1/-0)

I'd offer tribute to that thing too. Hope its not one of those jumping spiders.

[ - ] MuricaPersonified 3 points 1.7 yearsAug 9, 2023 09:20:43 ago (+3/-0)

Nah, just an average garden orb weaver. They're really docile, can be handled, and are highly unlikely to bite. Wouldn't recommend that because it takes too much energy out of them, and they're actually really bad at catching enough prey to replenish said energy. Having to rebuild a destroyed web is practically a death sentence for them.

It's a writing spider, also called a zipper spider. It gets the name from the zigzag web decoration.

Orb weavers don't have the web decoration or yellow markings, and also the webs are cleaner looking and can be bigger (the web is bigger, not the spider)

Both are cool spiders.

All spiders that make decorative structures (stabilimentum) are orb weavers, but not all orb weavers make stabilimentum; all are from the family Araneidae. Sort of a frog/toad situation.

They are indeed cool. As are the nigger Joros that we have now; just wish they weren't so invasive.

Looks like you're right, it does count as an orb weaver.

That's a female. It will lay it's egg sac in about a month, which is about the size of a queen olive. Wait until she dies after laying the sac and move it away from your house or they will be everywhere. This is something that I have to do every year. They are pretty docile but they do freak people out and when I have guests I just laugh at them and if they see the egg sac I call it a murder ball. Amusing to me, at least, but not them. Hahaha
