Simon and his collection agency tormented many people who covered the song “Scarborough Fair” - even though it dates back at least to the mid-17th century. Simon asked English artist, Martin Carthy, to teach him the guitar parts to the song after hearing him play it at a club in London - and then went and had it copyrighted the very next day under his own name.

The lyrics aren't brilliant or insightful and aren't meant for you. If someone can spin a catchy turn of phrase, or crate an ear worm that's not a reason to "like" a persona you made up in your head.

In an intervieww he was asked why half his proceeds didnt go to the guy who taught him this particlar iterarion of the song (adapted over the centuries). He said his lawyers were supposed to give him half but that "was the last he heard of it."

Also he changed the story from the guy who taught him the song to "he heard it once at a concert" to discredit involvement.
