Bravo. The very 'idea' of an HOA is basic communism. A 'group' of obscure unelected 'decision makers' pretending they can control and have a better Idea for the property that YOU Paid for. Every Home OWNER, should SUE every HOA, to explain Why they think they have a claim on your home.

HOA’s aren’t unelected.

Don’t like how your HOA runs? Run for a position. I was on mine for a few years and made many changes that benefited the homeowners.

I would never choose to live in one, personally.

Most of the time they are unelected. Even the "elected" ones are still minority of overall total who have sat since beginning.

Most of the time, there is a board that is voted on annually.

Ive seen it both ways, ive seen HOAs created out of thin air, but ive also seen a neighborhood elect to disband an HOA. As the economic conditions for people get rougher, I've seen a surprising amount of disbanded HOAs in my old neighborhoods, or what they call "opt in" HOAs

So that those who don't work are the one's doing the kvetching.

But it's literally brought to you by capitalism. You can choose to live somewhere without HOA.

As I've been told by many a real estate agents, most new generations are looking for HOAs and the attitude is to shove the problem on someone else. I know of some neighborhoods too that just told the HOA to go away, so it goes both ways. But the new generation has no concept of personal accountability. I had a couple who had to call a landlord ... to fix a lightbulb in their bathroom.

And what used to be common place like sanding down a door to close properly is seen as black magic for a lot of newer generation folks. Even my own gf was mesmerized at my handiness, but most of my handiness isn't even that advanced. Taking the pins out of a door to open a locked door is a 10 minute job, but to someone from a liberal dump, i may as well be Gaston from Beauty and the Beast.

The pins on the hinges?

[ - ] BeholdIAmHere 0 points 1.7 yearsSep 1, 2023 13:20:47 ago (+0/-0)

Yup those are the ones

[ - ] Hand_Of_Node 0 points 1.7 yearsSep 2, 2023 20:01:52 ago (+0/-0)

The advanced version is the pins in the lock itself.

I think you're mistaken on the concept. An HOA is not a random thing that happens to you. You have to intentionally search for a home for sale in an HOA, and potentially seek their approval to become a member.

I'm guessing they're a thing in substandard areas, so you'd have to move to one of those too.

That's fine. No HOA ever.

They're for people who want to live in terrible areas, but want their immediate neighbors to have no broken appliance or junk cars featured in their yards. And/or for anal-retentive types.

[ - ] SteppingRazor 2 points 1.7 yearsSep 1, 2023 09:10:03 ago (+2/-0)

HOAs are great of you have niggers in the neighborhood, they are forced to comply and keep their houses and lawns looking nice.

I can't believe that there are such institutions like HOA in the USA. I live in a post communist country and not even here do we have such ridiculous creations.

[ - ] Hand_Of_Node 0 points 1.7 yearsSep 2, 2023 20:12:27 ago (+0/-0)

They're due to a combination of post-1965 diversity and overpopulation. There are apparently a lot of people who want to live in terrible areas, but want their immediate neighbors to care for their yard and homes exterior as if they were humans.

The home owners association makes rules that members legally have to follow. "No broken washing machines in your front yard" would be an example of a minimum standard. The nature of the thing tends to attract busybodies to make rules, and they can become absurd if few pay attention.

What a retarded place to put a fence up.

[ - ] VitaminSieg 1 point 1.7 yearsSep 1, 2023 10:43:19 ago (+1/-0)

Sure, he's giving his HOA the finger, but also he did exactly what they said, so he's not really saying 'fuck you' at all.

[ - ] NeedleStack 2 points 1.7 yearsSep 1, 2023 12:24:05 ago (+2/-0)

"Malicious compliance".

[ - ] Hand_Of_Node 1 point 1.7 yearsSep 2, 2023 20:03:24 ago (+1/-0)

Sorry, that fence board exceeds the height limit.

HOAs are communism and anyone living in one deserves the gulag they live in.

I live out in the country where I can shoot guns in my front yard. My rental houses are in HOA neighborhoods to ensure things are kept up and tenants behave themselves.
