Investments to hedge against inflation or currency collapse? What are people trying?

submitted by Crackinjokes to AskUpgoat 1.8 yearsSep 10, 2023 06:10:06 ago (+4/-1)     (AskUpgoat)

Obviously the stock market however if the economy goes down in a significant way it would mean the stock market would also perhaps stagnate or even go down if there was an economic contraction. Of course there's gold there's Bitcoin there's silver there's real estate there are currencies from other countries. Are there any currencies from other countries that are gold backed currencies that are more or rather or not Fiat print as much as you need currencies? Would those be a good hedge against the US dollar if it no longer becomes the universal trade currency as seems to be happening? What are people thinking and doing?

Don’t get fired from your job. Have an emergency fund. Have a secondary job or a business lined up.

Be debt free is the best hedge against collapse.

Any money you make is yours to keep and should you need it, you can move asap without fear.

You'll only get mugged if you go down town.

Gold is too expensive, and probably going to be a poor value of exchange when SURVIVAL is really on the line. Bullets/guns/food (and food knowledge) > investments.

How can you follow them?

I always wondered if that was a valid tactic. Following Pelosi, she's made something like 290 million. If we all followed her at a tenth of that the entire time, well, we'd all be doing pretty well.

Maybe consider bonds (which have been moving up constantly due to central bank interest rates) if you think everything else is too risky. Obviously you are supporting the government that way, but whatever works at an individual level.

It used to be when the stock market went up bonds went down and one bonds went up the stock market went down. But that was when people were rationally trading the stocks based on the income they produced and PE ratios.

Fiat currency is worthless

“Of course there’s gold“ you said it right there. Why would you want something that is gold-backed when you can have the gold itself? So may be 10 to 15% in physical precious and semi precious metals? Lack of liquidity can be somewhat countered by careful purchasing.

Ammo, nonperishable food, water filters, fire starters, seeds, things to keep you warm and dry, books on holistic medicine, tactical books, crafting books, and more books......

Cigarettes and alcohol but best to be able to craft your own.

Dont forget beehives or sugarcane so you have the sugar for the homebrew.
Honey also stores for several lifetimes.
