Serviced and load banked a 1000kw Cummins generator today

It went very well. Im fuckin tired. Didnt get a pic cuz it didn't look as cool as the Cat i posted yesterday. Rolling 4/0 cable sucks. Watermelon Arizona Tea is a delicious gift from God. I hate niggers.

4/0 sucks. I had to coil 2x 100’ 4/0 feeder every couple weekends the one summer. I got pretty built tho ha. In my biz we do feeder (usually 1/0 anymore, sometimes 2/0), G N XYZ. Trying to think what your load bank would entail at 480, 3 circuits leg-leg, balanced so just ground? I live in 208 delta max land ha.

Brown orange yellow, 3 4/0 cables per phase for 1200A, held 37 gallons of oil and the fuel, oil, and coolant filters were super nice to get on and off without making a mess. Thats all I really care about. Yeah and a ground cable on the LB. It was this big office building's backup gen, and I got to service it and give it some needed exercise.

Would much rather own a cummins than a CAT. Not that they're better, actually CATs last a little longer and crapout less. The difference in parts prices is night and day. CAT stuff can literally be 3-5x the cost of cummins. It's not uncommon to see gasket kits in the thousands with CAT.

I replaced a water pump on this old cummins gen a while back, i dont know the engine model but it was old and it was a 500kw 480V gen. That water pump was $7,000. Crazy.

The gen did smoke a good amount once I put heavy load on it, because these people never exercise it with load, but it cleared right up.

This is a 2Mw load bank. Behind the panels are a bunch of coils of wires and a couple badass electric fans. Its really heavy. I pull it with my f250 work truck.
Fun fact: when youre pulling a shit ton of amperage from a big ol' gen (this gen was 480V, rated for about 1200 Amps), if you hover your foot or hand over the cables, you can FEEL the fucking resonance of the electricity flowing through it. Its weird as hell.

My lil load bank is only 4kW… haha. I drive it with ~3k of 1k sine wave from audio amps.
