I don't mean to be a pedant, but scripture says the love of money is the root of all evil. And while not a Christian, I believe in a real, tangible thing called evil, but neither pride nor love of money is the root of it.

But, yes, pride is a sin because nothing good ever comes from it, just as with the other sins: Gluttony, lust, greed or avarice, sloth, wrath, envy for covetousness, and pride.

I find it interesting what C.S. Lewis, the greatest Christian apologist of our time, thought about pride:

Pride has been labeled the mother of all sins and has been deemed the devil's most essential trait. C.S. Lewis writes in Mere Christianity that pride is the "anti-God" state, the position in which the ego and the self are directly opposed to God: "Unchastity, anger, greed, drunkenness and all that, are mere fleabites in comparison: it was through Pride that the devil became the devil: Pride leads to every other vice: it is the complete anti-God state of mind."

I think this is a statement most religions would agree with, amazingly enough.

Humility and humbleness are excellent traits. No one likes a braggart or a boaster of his qualities or accomplishments.

Also, the phrase "root of all evil" is from 1 Timothy 6:10, which you paraphrased: "For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows." I was just giving the source for where the phrase "root of all evil".

I agree with the sentiment, that greed is an evil, although I disagree that greed is the root of all evil.

You cited Lucifer's desire to be like God. That is vanity, covetousness, and pride.
