When I was in Mississippi it was a game to try to swim away from alligators. I was there two months, besides being a young child there. Would've liked to experience.
It's so wild that they are allowed to just sell alligators at pet shops up there. I worked at a pet shop and we had all kinds of animals that would be really illegal to sell in Florida. I'm not just talking Burmese pythons, either. We had a tank with about a dozen or so baby alligators, we sold Amazonian piranhas, I got my hand shredded by a six foot yellow anaconda. Being a Florida native it blew my mind what they were allowed to sell. Obviously, I worked in the reptile department.
I guess the reasoning is that if they were to escape for some reason, that they wouldn't survive the winter. Still kinda fucked up. The gators we had were less than a foot, I always wondered what stupidly brave bastard separated them from it's mother.
I don't know where to get a gator in pa. But I want one. A buddy would hunt them for money in New Orleans... That's the closest you'll get to hunting a dinosaur

The pet shop I worked at was in Plymouth Meeting. This is like twenty years ago, so it might be closed.
