And speaking of genes, there’s not much genetic difference between ashkenazi, purportedly from Eastern or Northern Europe, and sephardics.
Going with the khazaria theory as well, which I have been reading more about recently, they are still not Europeans. Yes, they were and still are a mixed people but they are mixed to the point of distinct demarcation from Europeans.
The vast majority of their genes are Germanic. It's not that complicated. They aren't pure Germans. But they also aren't pure anything else, including ancient Israelite least of all.
