Taxpayers subsidize EV charging at a rate equivalent to $17.33 per gallon of gasoline

The study from the Texas Public Policy Foundation (TPPF) found, for example, that the average 2021 electric vehicle “would cost $48,698 more to own over a 10-year period without $22 billion in government favors given to EV manufacturers and owners.”

In my part of the world gasoline has an added tax on it.

This tax is used to pay for the building and maintenance of streets and roads.
The more you drive, the more gasoline you use, and therefore the more you pay to maintain and build roads. It's fair and it makes perfect sense.

Electric car users don't pay this tax.
But they add congestion, and put wear and tear on our roads.

So add that to the subsidies we have to pay.

wear and tear

At a higher rate in fact! EV’s are heavier than IC vehicles.

Plus the amount of sudden climate change they'll cause once you need to replace the batteries!

Because a combustion engine that's been continually running with maintenance since 1960 is jess sew ikyyyewwwwwguhrowwwwsss!

I don't fundamentally understand the climate accusation. It 10 digging oil out of the ground or 2) digging cobalt, lithium, and rare earths and other shit out. Oil seems to have more advanced technology for extraction out of the ocean, which is convenient because there is a shitload of seabed, and people don't need to live on it. And on top of that: The extraction of all this stuff runs on diesel.

I understand efficiency of energy transfer. A bugman commute can be made slightly more efficient. If you try to actually do anything, the case breaks down. An enormous amount of shit can't be done using anything but petrol products. I like that shit getting done. So I support drilling.

There are so many hidden costs to things like this when the government is involved.

[ - ] PotatoWhisperer2 3 points 1.6 yearsOct 26, 2023 20:19:51 ago (+3/-0)

The workers creating the gas are taxed, the employers are taxed for having workers, and on their income as well, the gas itself is taxed, there's the sales tax, the transport tax, etc etc etc.

And don't forget your mandated insurance!

Everything would cost 1/4 of it's current cost without government.

This.
I fucking hate how capitalism is blamed for fucked up economies that are completely regulated and manipulated by big brother

Most of them usually don't even involve the subject being discussed.

They use most of that tax money to fund niggers, bums, and bombing shitholes. Dpubt the roads get 10% of it.

Don't pollute the planet then fuck face!

Don't pollute the planet

My genetics are pure White, Northern European. My genetics are not polluting the planet.

Are you and your genetics polluting the planet?

As much as I disapprove of EV mandates, I believe this may be a flawed analysis.

For instance, the person charging the vehicle will pay for the power and charger. The electric company will use some of that income to develop the power grid and distribution system. But the analysis shows development of the power grid as expense born by others instead of person paying for the charging electricity.

There is no detail provided in the article….it is a “report about a report.” The reader is left to wonder what assumptions were made and how the numbers were derived.

The link to the actual report is right on the page but here it is for you because your special. https://www.texaspolicy.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/2023-10-TrueCostofEVs-BennettIsaac.pdf

Most of the infrastructure upgrades required will be subsidized by all grid users and tax payers in general.

I have yet to find any capital expense from a power company that wasn't directly tied to rate increases.

This means that customer rates go up for a wind farm install, and a solar farm install - and then the rates go up again to pay for decommissioning of those same wind and solar farms.

We should ask Iran, Ukraine, Palestine and Israel to help us out.

As if I already don't know the money only flows in one direction.

Don't worry we'll get Mexico to pay for it.

Don't forget to vote next November.

In my area the utility will give you a rebate for upgraded service drop if it supports public EV chargers.

[ - ] allAheadFull [op] 0 points 1.6 yearsOct 26, 2023 18:19:28 ago (+0/-0)

Is that for businesses?

[ - ] JoesLegHair 1 point 1.6 yearsOct 26, 2023 19:50:31 ago (+1/-0)

I don't know all the details, it was my understanding the chargers just needed to be available for the public to use. The guy from the utility made it sound like the rules were ill defined and the direction from above was to err on the side of giving out more rebates.

Unbelievable bullshit!!!
Fuck all ev's!!!

Many false assumptions. Here's 2 big ones that turn their results upside down and show EV's a better and cheaper.

Lets start with their hugely false assumption that we should compare a $28,000 SUV gas engine to a $50,000 EV. If someone was looking at a EV in that range, they'd get a Chevy Bolt. $26,000 before the federal tax credit. Someone buying a $50000 Tesla model Y would be looking at a $50,000 Gas car, such as the Lexus or the Highlander. I know, because my wife bought the Tesla and I watched her musings for many months.

2nd, As a gift, I installed a Tesla charger here on the house for her. It charges in the middle of the night when there is plentiful electricity, in fact, the rates for electricity are obscenely cheap. The only time when needs a Tesla fast charger, the public ones, is when traveling in it, which is not too common. Teslas chargers are cheap and don't cost the public anything (unless a local municipality or state chooses to fund it, which I have not heard of yet).

I'm not saying EV's are Gods gift to the world. They have shitloads of issues which could be discussed for some time as there are so many. But damn, they're badass fun to drive. Her Y, the dual motor 4 wheel drive version, does 0 to 60 in 4.6 seconds. Great traction and amazingly quiet. I love driving that car. Even the cheap little Chevy Bolt is so much fun to step on the accelerator, great little car.
