The end of the war happened because the wives and mothers of the soldiers that had been fed into the meat grinders for years and years began to protest in the streets back home. They were the first parades. The parades got so overwhelming and the people on the front lines began to abandon their positions so much that the war was frankly brought to an end before the powers that be ever formally initiated any into it. It was a revolt from the bottom started by the women who had lost their sons and husbands and we're sick of seeing more die. So when you see a parade and they're marching with the guns and you're celebrating the guns remember it was the opposite parade that actually started the holiday.
