A little caulk in between those boards would have gone a long way.

Look at mister fancy pants over here!

With the size of the wood stove, it doesn't really matter imo. A bit of fresh air feels great when it's 100° inside.

Strangely enough, I really like sleeping where the side facing the fire is too hot and the side facing the wall is cold. Something about that is comforting.

I've melted the heels of my boots on more than one occasion.

He's still right. Half as much draft equals twice as warm with the same fire. And you could cut the draft by many fold. It means going out for firewood that much less. It means not burning through your wood that's immediately close and having to walk a ways to get it or hauling it in.

With a properly done board and batten job, there's not that much of a draft really, the door is 100x worse.

Need to see niggers try to make a mud hut in the snow.

The second the fire goes out, its back to 25 degrees. How fucking hard is it to put up some hard insulation. Floor, walls and roof.

[ - ] kammmmak 1 point 1.5 yearsNov 17, 2023 21:59:49 ago (+1/-0)

What's "hard" insulation?

Foam sheets.

[ - ] TomMacdonald 0 points 1.5 yearsNov 18, 2023 12:19:27 ago (+0/-0)

Closed cell foam is expensive. The roll of silver insulation would work wonders on the roof.

[ - ] Nosferatjew 1 point 1.5 yearsNov 18, 2023 13:33:16 ago (+1/-0)

An actual roof would work wonders on the roof too.

Less master carpenters and more people that have lived in that terrain. I spent four years in a cabin very similar. Each summer it got insulation. By the time I was done, I realized I should have done that first.

lots of people work construction at some point in their life

[ - ] Anus_Expander 1 point 1.4 yearsNov 19, 2023 07:57:43 ago (+1/-0)

You fuckhead naysayers are missing the point. This is a WEEKEND shed for getting drunk and hunting, or room-whacking. It's made to be disassembled and moved. If no rain is forecast, the tarp roof is sufficient.

[ - ] Nosferatjew 4 points 1.5 yearsNov 17, 2023 22:19:13 ago (+4/-0)

That looks like it took longer than one day.

And most things were precut

[ - ] HonkyMcNiggerSpic 4 points 1.5 yearsNov 17, 2023 21:15:46 ago (+4/-0)

This is essentially how I built my kids clubhouses two different times. I don't like the tarp on the roof but everything else is on point. That stove would run your ass out of there. and why didn't they put a funnel attached to a hose and ran outside so a man can take a piss?

As a former roofer and fenestrater, detest the lack of comp shingles and proper glazing. Still cool though.

There’s not even enough room for two to sleep

4k in materials, sleeps one.

I can do that.

[ - ] AntiPostmodernist 0 points 1.5 yearsNov 18, 2023 10:29:58 ago (+0/-0)

They could have had a roof of wooden planks, and a window of glass.

I'm sure someone could find a video with a better job being done of this.

Do you know why a shed is called a shed? Because it sheds rain. It's a rainshed.

Without a lasting roof this structure is doomed. Good thing it's a shack and not a shed.

That ground moisture barrier will soon be a swimming pool. Those foundation logs will rot quickly in the shade of the house. Anything within one foot of the ground should be pressure treated. It needs paint on the north side for moss/mold (if untreated) and paint on the south side for uv rays. Actually where UV hits is often the longest lasting part of a deer blind so that's least bad.

It is built like many deer blinds and will last like a deer blind.

Step 1: Give the Jews at home Depot all your money for lumber.

Come on, it could have been a log cabin or something

Sawmills aren't that expensive & easy to run

[ - ] NeedleStack 0 points 1.5 yearsNov 17, 2023 21:45:24 ago (+0/-0)

Cute but not functional for any reasonable length of time. The moisture buildup will cause mold to quickly form due to the lack of cross ventilation. Forget being able to withstand a snow load too.

[ - ] canbot 4 points 1.5 yearsNov 17, 2023 22:09:41 ago (+4/-0)

Absurd. That has more airflow than a sieve.

[ - ] Rotteuxx [op] 0 points 1.5 yearsNov 18, 2023 06:04:51 ago (+0/-0)

It's got a decent pitch & snow slides easily off of a tarp like that, especially when it's warm inside.

I wouldn't be too worried.

[ - ] Systemisgay 0 points 1.5 yearsNov 17, 2023 21:42:28 ago (+0/-0)
