Human and animal biology is surprisingly resilient. There are other cases where people were missing 90% of their brain and living semi-normally. I recall a story where a guy had some kind of deformity where that was the case for him. Most of what was in his head was just cerebrospinal fluid. His brain consisted of most of the outward parts, but beyond an inch inwards, there was nothing there. His IQ was somewhere around 70-80 IIRC, and he seemed like a normal enough retard that the state of his brain was completely unknown until he had an MRI for something unrelated, and the doctors spotted the anomaly.
