I am a soft spot for old media so I keep DVDs and VHS tapes of any media I enjoy. A handful of Blu-rays as well. It’s not a large collection but it’s enjoyable to have a physical copy.
The Plex server seems useful but The prospect of building it and using it, I just can’t fathom. A NAS sounds useful! Just purchased a an external HDD and made a copy of the old external HDD.
Setting up any remotely modern rig to be a media player is truly trivial. What are you doing here? I thought that goats were resourceful and at least vaguely intelligent.
You don't need any of the bullshit he specified, but that's his config and it works for him. Personally, I find his setup overblown and mildly autistic, but that's just me; you can do far simpler. You certainly don't need 64Gb of RAM or a PLEX server, whatever the fuck that is... Probably some proprietary retardation that you shouldn't even bother with.
Take a Windows or Linux PC. Go to Plex website. Install Plex Server. It will ask you where your media is located on the pc. From there you set up libraries if you have videos, movies, tv shows etc.
My main PC is a XPS 8500 that is nearly 11 years old. It's got a SSD and maxed out the RAM at 32GIG. Performs well enough. I do have a modern laptop running Linux for other stuff. The only thing to go was the power supply. Two in fact, which is kinda weird.
I bought two computers in I don't know, 15 years? The first one was good enough so why replace it? I even had DDR3 which now a days is considered shit tier. Eventually it died so I bought a second one. Half the price of the first one and much more powerful. Back then we didn't even had solid state. It's probably going to last me a good 10 years. I don't see the need to replace technology so often.
You know what I did? I got a PC with two hard drives. A smaller SSD for stuff that need performance and a very large HDD for storage. All the cut and past is annoying but it works. And I also have an external SSD and a large HHD that can be plugged in if needed.

I’ve noticed SSDs die abruptly though, unlike a conventional HDD where it slowly begins to fail.

This has worked for everything from lawnmowers to relationships in my life. Even with that guess which device breaks down the most....yep.

Doesn't miss a beat!😉
The simple hack jews hate. Connect an external drive for programs that are processor intensive.

The hardware from a decade ago is perfectly capable. It’s the software that has began bloating.
Don’t think developers even bother optimizing in this era.
