I did this when I was a manager at a major fortune 500 company.

Why? Because it works. It improves morale and performance.

You know what doesn't work? Raising salaries.
Human psychology is dumb.

My job is throwing a pizza party this Friday & the only choices of pizza are Domino's, Pizza Hut, Papa John's or Marco's. No local places.
-Why?
Because it's too expensive.
-But you just said that you made record profits this year...

Go to HR. NOW.

You did the work for the paycheck not pizza.

If you're unhappy with your paycheck seek other employment, while employed.

Whiners

I fuckin loved pizza day back when i was a young work-hard whipper snapper.

I do remember people in the break room griping about it from time to time.

Sad.

This is literally one of the most common and predictable corporate moves. It is like Pawn to E4.

We’ve fucked you good out of wages and benefits all year long, fired a few of your co-workers and spread their work amongst those of you remaining, so now we’ll have a team-building (brainwashing) day reinforced by the reward of yummy and cheap pizza! YaY!

I feel for those guys. The counting and stacking can be a real pain, especially when the cash comes in faster than you can deal with it. But dealing with a loose pile is going to be more work in the end.
