It's foggy, it's dark, it's Friday night. That means it is time once again for the Friday Night guitar thread! Come one, come all. Music is for sharing!

submitted by Sleazy to Guitar 4 monthsDec 22, 2023 19:58:25 ago (+20/-0)     (Guitar)

Once again, it's time for the FNGT!

If you don't know how this works, click this link. That link will take you to another site to give you some additional information and tell you about some of our off-site features. That's also the site where we will host the weekly guitar threads, should Talk.lol go down.

NOTE: That site is by invitation only. If you want an invite, ask a regular participant (such as @TheRealBuddha or myself)

If you already know what's going on, you probably don't need to click any of those links. You can still visit to see if any changes have been made, as that's also where we kept the archives and have a second forum.

By the way, we're down to just two of us. If you want to help, let us know.

Hello everybody. @TheRealBuddha is recovering from the massive storms and hundred year flood up there in Maine, so we're doing Christmas next week.

In the meantime, this Bud's for you!

Society is too fucked up to drink shitty beer. Let me recommend Sierra Nevada, in the 9%+ range. Or get yourself a 'Therapist' at 10.4%. (no appointment necessary) Lagunitas is another good beer mfg.

I just bought a cello! The thing is remarkably difficult at first. Finally started getting the hang of it but now I can’t feel my fingertips. I’ll be god damned if I can ever figure out how to hold the bow right.

ProTip: stand it on an end table, and play like a bass with your fingers. Bows are gay.

I can't listen, but you two might like to do some early stuff from Arlo Guthro.

As for the rest, well... I'll survive. They say it's a 100 year flood, which means I shouldn't witness it again. Though, regardless of the naysayers, the climate does appear to be changing. Even if one could realistically debate the cause, it's still changing.

Hopefully, I don't see it again. We've had more deaths than we needed. We've had more damage than we needed. It will be months before things are truly back to normal. They won't even clean up the full mess until spring.

The temperatures have dropped. People who don't have wood stoves will start doing desperate things to heat their homes. That's going to cause a few more deaths.

Amusingly, not far from me, someone brought out his boat and set up a ferry service so that people can get back and forth to town and even set up a car pool so that people could at least get to work. I'm impressed.

In times of crisis, there are two kinds of people. You have those (of which I'm proud to count myself as one) who will run towards danger and you have those who will run away. There's nothing wrong with those who run away. That's just human nature and we're all made of different stuff. It's those who run towards things like the sound of gunfire that are called to do so.

I'm happy to hear you came through pretty much unscathed

We are good at my house.

Solar is up but at maybe 3/4 capacity. Wind power is down about 33% - as the other tower's turbine is more potent than the one that went down.

There's the satellite dish but the rest is cleared up. The trees are all cleared up.

I do have a positive note. It says power was restored in the last section as of about 20 minutes ago.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 2 points 4 monthsDec 22, 2023 22:19:53 ago (+2/-0)

Power being on is good news, that will help everybody

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 1 point 4 monthsDec 23, 2023 13:33:36 ago (+1/-0)

I have mains power. I have my hotspot running.

I have so much to catch up on.

I am so happy to be able to type with a regular keyboard again!!!

Between the outage and family being here, I've got gobs of stuff to take care of. Fortunately, I have the place largely to myself right now. Everyone has, as is sort of the tradition, gone shopping.

I don't need to do any shopping and they'll be getting gifts for me, so I'm excluded from the event. I'm grateful for this.

While I do buy individual presents, I do so early. Then, I also give gifts of money. I like to give them something personal and then money that lets them buy what they actually want or what they need. It's not that I'm being impersonal, it's that I want them to have their best experience. Their best experience is going to be something they've chosen.

It also helps that family tend to give me hints about what they want. So, I buy their personal gifts throughout the end of the year and then just give them pre-paid debit cards. This seems to be the best solution and has worked well for years.

I guess the roads are all still kind of fucked. They're still having to take detours trying to get to places. I suspect the road closures will mean they're closed until spring comes, maybe even next summer. In some cases, they're going to need new bridges.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 1 point 4 monthsDec 23, 2023 15:18:49 ago (+1/-0)

I would think that almost everyone likes to get money as a gift

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 1 point 4 monthsDec 23, 2023 16:29:36 ago (+1/-0)

Even I like getting money as a gift!

Nobody gives me money as a gift. Nobody...

I, on the other hand, give people money with some regularity. I'll even give people money for drugs and alcohol. If I see a homeless person begging (which I don't see in my neighborhood) for money, I know they're going to spend it on drugs or alcohol. I still give them money. Fuck, if I was homeless I'd want to be high and drunk. In fact, I'd really want to be high and drunk.

Also, if you're curious, I will be ordering a Mustang Dark Horse.

I'm not a huge Mustang fan, but I want this one. Also, I suspect it'll be quite valuable at a future date.

A dark horse? I've never heard of that one. Is that one of those 1100 horsepower models

I was thinking, or maybe I wasn't thinking, but an idea occurred to me to have a special surprise bonus FNGT on Christmas day and share all of our Christmas songs with the people on the actual Christmas day. We did it before on VOAT before they shut down. I guess it comes down to how busy you are going to be on Monday. I was just thinking that since the storm screwed up last night for the Christmas stuff we could just do an all Christmas song FNGT on Monday, if you have the time and then another on Friday. I think it would be cool to share the Christmas songs on Christmas day, I don't know what you think. But I am not going to be too busy on Monday. I imagine that you might be, but I don't know, so I bring this up

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 1 point 4 monthsDec 23, 2023 20:06:34 ago (+1/-0)

Monday evening will be a bit busy for me, but less busy than tomorrow and tomorrow night. We do all our stuff the day before Christmas with some lingering family time spent on Christmas day.

I'm down for that. We can do a 'surprise' Christmas thread on Monday night.

I dunno how many regulars (for what that's worth these days) will join in, but we can do it.

The worst thing that happens is that nobody pays attention and gets joy from the tracks we share. That's not too bad. We can do some repeats on the Friday following, I suppose.

Now someone needs to do the coward of the county. Hahaha.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 1 point 4 monthsDec 23, 2023 13:33:01 ago (+1/-0)

For a survival strategy, cowardice is a solid tactic for many situations.

[ - ] Peleg 1 point 4 monthsDec 25, 2023 19:45:50 ago (+1/-0)

I was talking about the song, by Kenny Rogers. The Coward of the County.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 1 point 4 monthsDec 25, 2023 19:48:14 ago (+1/-0)

I figured but figured I'd give some commentary.

We're having a surprise Christmas thread! Merry Christmas (assuming you celebrate)!
