It's also probably more accurate than that level. The level is easier but levels and lasers do go bad, a plumb bob never lies.

You always flip the level around to make sure the bubbles aren't off. If they are, split the difference and you have level.

Gravity is the only way to find level. Level is effectively a curved line (on a perfect sphere) making a perfect circle around earth, at any given distance from the center.
