I was warned about a "chinese food" place which was on the main floor of a house that had cats escaping from the basement windows from time to time. I actually saw cats coming from there myself. I think they do the same with dogs too.

Nah the kittens are desperate and we waited once, mum never came back. Plenty of food around, they just abandon their kittens. It's a "rat utopia" senerio with cats, they are psychotic.

They have diminishing oxytocin as the kittens age into independent. Momma cats care a lot at first, when they are weining. After about six weeks that goes away and you're left with basically a tribe of kittens on their way to being feral.

If you can scoop them up at that age they can be domesticated.
