They go into the jobs thinking it's for money but they end up spending the same amount with as normal job with the vacations and partying.

It does sound amazing at times. I talked to this one guy who said he made 150k a year but had to work six months on and then six off. Didn't sound terrible to me unless you can't manage your money. And even if you can't, just get a side gig.

I've also experienced this. It's uncanny how cold your fingers will feel when all you do is take the glove off for long enough to reach for your keys. The pins and needles feeling doesn't go away until you run them under warm water for a few minutes. In such temperatures, unless tactility is absolutely required, mitts are strongly recommended.

Also (related but unrelated) in these places, cold emergency kits require a jar of vasoline so you can cover any exposed skin to protect from the windchill.

It was -2 f last night for me at work. I was outside in the cold wind (it was windy as fuck) for 20 or so minutes at a time 4 or 5 times and about froze my fingers off each time. It was fucking miserable. Based on that alone its hard to imagine working in -67f conditions.

I don't miss being the grunt at work, luckily we never weld outdoors below 0°F because metallurgy. In this weather we'd be doing mechanical inspections, like gapping, greasing and replacing bearings on conveyors for example... things that require thin gloves & dexterity.

The prairie provinces/states are dry as a desert in the winter, so while it's cold as fuck it may feel different on the surface. That said, the wind chill (a drying effect on the surface) can still freeze a man's ear in seconds.
