Barborosa was successful because the Soviets were staging to attack Germany. Stalin's mindset was that they would attack germany and sweep all of western Europe, who were (he thought) had been weakened by war. Germany caught them flat footed and used the Russian supplies against them.

Reference book by Victor Suvorov, one of 2 NKVD agents who defected to the west. Book "The Chief Culprit: Stalin's Grand Design to Start World War II" Paperback – March 15, 2013

There were plans to attack yes, but that wasn't going to happen in 1941, but that's besides the point. Stalin's refusal to react to the constant warning from all sides that Germany was about to strike first was one of the main factors for the success. Also Barbarossa was only successful the first few months but then turned out disastrous late 1941 as Germany did not achieve their initial objective while also having lost a big portion of their best men, now stuck in a two-front war that was dragging down their resources and manpower tremendously.

In hindsight, my opinion is that it would have been better if Germany put itself in a defensive position rather than an offensive one against the Soviet Union. Or that the objective of Barbarossa should have had a more realistic objective rather than "destroy the Red Army to the point of them surrendering before the arrival of winter" when we know that the big vast land of Russia allowed the Red Army to continuously fall back, regroup to fight another day. Just like the Russians did against Napoleon.

Many Generals were continuously trying to convince Hitler to go straight to Moscow, but Hitler with his hubris thought he knew much better and refused and instead had his army separated to 3 groups instead, one to the south, north and centre. When Hitler finally decided to give the green light to attack Moscow;
1. Army Group Centre was not at its full strength because of the division of the army
2. Muddy season had already arrived which meant the mobility of the German armor, which was one of their biggest advantages, had been heavily reduced, reducing their effectiveness in the Battle of Moscow.
3. Enough time was given for the Soviet Union to build up their defenses.

And then don't get me started on Stalingrad. Hitler's actions, along with Goering and other Hitler's yes men generals was to blame for the destruction of the 6th Army. The 20 July plot was completely understandable because Hitler with his blunders had put Germany in a position of absolute defeat.

A lot of people refuses to see this because they've been entirely brainwashed by 'Europa: The Last Battle', 'The Greatest Story Never Told' etc. Instead of being brainwashed by mainstream propaganda that Hitler was the most evil man ever who wanted to rule the world and kill all jews, they went to other side of the extreme were they think Hitler was flawless and all his actions can either be exonerated or blamed on someone else.

He was briefly the living incarnation of the will of his people.
