Why don't we have a Middle West?

But that's like saying we have an Iraq, Iraq is the Middle East. When you speak globally, you expect the Middle West to be represented by a core group of countries. As an example: The US, Canada, & England...

You should be thinking of the states as separate entities.

The states are both separate entities, and part of a union of states. Is is proper to refer to the Mid-West when you speak of a section of the whole United States. So when I speak of a section of the countries, the states blend in to what is called The United States of America. So speaking on a global level, What group of countries in the West, is the equilivelent of the Middle East.

That is all irrelevant. We have a middle east AND a middle west. Stop moving goal posts.

Depends on how you look at it. I would make the case that the US & Mexico could be thought of as the Middle West, but Mexico doesn't really amount to much, so then I thought America and Canada. But that leaves out the European nations. Maybe The US, Canada, & England... (It is admittedly a stretch...)

The bigger question is what is east? What is west? If something is east of somewhere, if you go the opposite direction, it becomes west of somewhere. Who decided east/west?

Middle North = North Pole
Middle South = South Pole
Middle Middle = The Mysterious Island

Because the people doing the naming were already on the West edge of the known world. Everything else was middle East or far East.

I can see that, but since the world has evolved, they never thought to define the middle west? Lot's of possibilities. Germany, England, France +/-USA

Well Western Europe was the center of the world to the people doing the naming so it's not going to be the middle west and for a while the Americas were called the West Indies.

The west is western Europe. The east is Asia. The middle east is part way to Asia. Middle west would be eastern Europe.
