If you try telling someone that they are the product if they're using a free product, you need to provide concrete examples, rather than just repeating a phrase like "you are the product".

Here is why, you are the one making it a problem. The service to them is something they enjoy.

Like Facebook.

Gives them relevance, and honestly most of those people on FB are lonely.

They doom scroll and wait for people on their friend list to come online.

I got one like that. Good guy, but lonely as fuck. Can tell he waits till someone pops up...he will try small talk.

We were at the range, and I said this same phrase to him, and immediately he said he knows, and blah blah.

I said no man. That android phone you got. Google KNOWS you. Better than you know yourself.

Facebook listens to you, and will target ads to shit you are saying.

Called me a tinfoil hat. Blah blah.

Messages me a few days later saying he experienced it..I said no.

You started paying attention. They been doing that for years.

Tonight he posted that he was buying dinner for anyone wanted to go with him.

Telling you. If you ever wanted to make friends. Just talk to someone. Be nice if possible.

I've wondered about this too. Every time I hear there is a "hack" I wonder if it's just a cover for having sold info that only they'd have. When is the last time you ever heard of a hacked company actually paying a price for having leaked the users' data?

Most services wouldn't need to cover it up since they openly state that data they gather from you us theirs to do as they wish with. They can't leak your data because there is only their data.

Funny you bring this up. Just yesterday I was having a heated discussion about this with a friend, for the umpteenth time.

Fast forward to the evening, and my client starts demanding that I download a shitty third party app specifically to track me. I told them to go pound sand.

They kept texting me asking when I was going to set it up throughout the night while I was trying to sleep. I decided to read the privacy policy: Full access to all data on phone, whereabouts, datamined info sold to analytics corporations, and that under no circumstances would they ever delete my data.

I was livid and responded back that I refused their terms and conditions, was not installing datamining software on personal telecomunications equipment, was blocking their number and reporting them, and would contact an attorney if they kept harassing me about it.

I am finishing that job today and they haven't tried through other means to get me to install again; they know damn well what they're doing is illegal. I'm sure they've successfully bullied many contractors into installing their spyware. Fuck you, bite me motherfucker!
