But why would any creditor (debt owner) do that?
Imagine if I owed you 1 million dollars, and your options are:
A: you get fucking nothing and lose your main supplier of food, tech, and physical protection,
-or maybe-
B: you forgive 900K of that and keep everything else (the whole support system of your world) intact.

With the virtually 100% inflation we had on many items margins were thin to begin with we're actually witnessing the collapse of the dollar. It won't happen overnight. What's going to happen is a steadily increasing rate of what people will view as inflation. It will never say the dollar collapse they'll just be 100% inflation then 150% inflation then 300% inflation then 500%.

If they can force (let happen) a debt crisis heading into the election the candidate who is perceived as more fiscally responsible will win. That’s my best thought.

Side note, what the fuck is the reason that we borrow money? If we cannot afford something, don't spend it. If it is necessary, it is worth inflating the money. And who the fuck do we borrow from?
