Any Pinball Enthusiasts Here?

submitted by TheSpiceMelange to AskUpgoat 1.3 yearsMar 7, 2024 21:52:26 ago (+12/-2)     (AskUpgoat)

I bought my first game last summer, a 1977 Gottlieb, and have been fixing it up like new. Just wondering if any other goats share my love for the silver ball.

Probably a Pong fan

Man, that’s cool. I always wanted one of my own. I think my favorite was High Speed from the early eighties.

[ - ] Outlaw_Aryan 2 points 1.3 yearsMar 7, 2024 23:33:46 ago (+2/-0)

What are you waiting for?

[ - ] TheOriginal1Icemonkey 0 points 1.3 yearsMar 7, 2024 23:50:48 ago (+0/-0)

If I really had nothing left to do, as in, I was fully accomplished in the the things I most care about, then I might do it. It’s not for a lack of money. I’d drop 5k for one if it meant that much to me.

[ - ] Outlaw_Aryan 1 point 1.3 yearsMar 8, 2024 11:17:52 ago (+1/-0)

No I knew it wasn't the money. Priorities I guess. Other things that matter more.

Right now, my whole house is moved into sonsite storage containers, as we’re starting. Whole house remodel on Tuesday. All the rooms except the kitchen, that was done a few months back. So, I’m sitting here in my Underoos thinking about. New recliner and if I should re-hook up my stereo system or can it for a small Bose system when we move back in. Maybe a roll down screen with a projector for co cert videos and movies. I don’t know. I don’t have a game room for a pinball machine.
Who knows.

The Bally-Williams games of the 80s and 90s are some of the best of all time. Truly a golden era.

[ - ] Master_Foo 2 points 1.3 yearsMar 7, 2024 23:31:34 ago (+2/-0)

The pinball machine at the college bookstore took more of my money than the bookstore did.

[ - ] MichaelStewart 2 points 1.3 yearsMar 7, 2024 22:52:19 ago (+2/-0)

I'm not, but I play Donkey Kong (1981) competitively, I won the beginner's division at an event a couple years back.

Hah, I bet you've been following that Billy Mitchell saga over the last few years.

[ - ] MichaelStewart 1 point 1.3 yearsMar 8, 2024 21:35:51 ago (+1/-0)

Got to be so many videos on it I stopped following it. We’re so far past it that we don’t even talk about “that guy” anymore.

His hot sauce isn’t so bad.

[ - ] MuricaPersonified 1 point 1.3 yearsMar 9, 2024 02:20:47 ago (+1/-0)*

Well, the fucker finally lost all of his frivolous lawsuits. A dorky, mega-autistic speedrunner got the leg-up on him with evidence in court.

His hot sauce isn’t so bad.

Lol, I'll have to check that out. Dexter Holland's 'Gringo Bandito' hotsauce is in-fuckin-credible, but I still hate that dipshit, despite my nostalgia for The Offspring.

Edit: Oh shit, Mitchell's hotsauce is Rickey's? Yeah, I've had a bottle of that. It's an above average Lousiana Style, but nothing really special.

[ - ] MichaelStewart 0 points 1.3 yearsMar 9, 2024 07:41:40 ago (+0/-0)

What's the deal with Dexter, I wonder? All I know is that he was a valedictorian and has piloted a plane around the world. My favorite band AFI has some beef with them, apparently, but I don't know the deets.

[ - ] MuricaPersonified 1 point 1.3 yearsMar 9, 2024 08:32:09 ago (+1/-0)

He went on some big pro-diversity rant a few years ago.

AFI's 'Sing the Sorrow' was a masterpiece, btw.

I've got a high score on Addams at my local arcade, best selling pin of all time!

[ - ] PotatoWhisperer2 1 point 1.3 yearsMar 8, 2024 05:40:35 ago (+1/-0)

I've always wanted to build a skee-ball board. But I've got too many projects as is right now. I'll have to finish the house painting, solar system, and boat refurbishing first.

Owned Sorcerer for years. God I miss it.

[ - ] TheSpiceMelange [op] 0 points 1.3 yearsMar 8, 2024 21:40:03 ago (+0/-0)

Never played one but the playfield looks great. What made you give it up?

[ - ] Imnotajoo 1 point 1.3 yearsMar 8, 2024 01:48:34 ago (+2/-1)

Ive got GETAWAY II

Do you also have a mullet?

[ - ] Sector2 1 point 1.3 yearsMar 7, 2024 22:30:19 ago (+2/-1)

Nah, but my housemate invented "the black hole" right around that year.

How hard is it to find replacement parts?

[ - ] TheSpiceMelange [op] 0 points 1.3 yearsMar 8, 2024 21:38:04 ago (+0/-0)

Not too hard, Marco Specialties has a lot of general parts for different systems. Good for lights, rubbers, plastics, balls, that kind of thing. If a relay ever burned out, I might have to do some looking.

[ - ] LostWhale 0 points 1.3 yearsMar 8, 2024 01:55:26 ago (+1/-1)

I bought one, sold it for a profit. I love pinball but my place is kinda small right now. I think my favorite physical machine is medevil madness, its just so godamned fun an easy to play. Video game pin is fucking dope too, devils crush on the PC engine is killer.

When a lethal weapon pops up at a reasonable price in my area I'm gonna snag it I think.

[ - ] Hall_of_Cost 1 point 1.3 yearsMar 8, 2024 04:08:06 ago (+1/-0)

Medieval Madness is so much fun. My buddies and I would play it frequently at a small dive bar, way back when.

[ - ] TheSpiceMelange [op] 0 points 1.3 yearsMar 8, 2024 02:01:17 ago (+1/-1)

Medieval is truly the greatest, it's how I got my girl hooked on the hobby. First game she could really grasp the ruleset and strategy. RIP Lyman.

i really love pinball but i dont know where to go to play it and now your thread is making me go and look for a pinball videogame.

i played when i was a kid. some neighbors brought a mini pinball and i played with a little. such a simplistic waste timer

I'm lucky enough to have some good arcades near me, but you should get out there! They also have a few expos around the country each year.. PAPA in Pittsburg, Stern in Chicago, and some others on the coasts.

The Twilight Zone
Star Trek - The next Generation are two of my favorites.

The brand new Ghostbusters machine is absolutely insane.

look into grounding the circuit board

It's a 1977 "Bronco", I have pictures but you can easily look it up on pinside or other database. Bought it from a man who had it in his basement for the last 40 years and let the grandkids play it. All it really needed was a new flipper rebuild and some new rubbers. I've since had to repair some of the relays but that's the fun part. I would love an old flipper-less pin, getting back to the roots, you know?

[ - ] Thought_Criminal 0 points 1.3 yearsMar 8, 2024 08:21:03 ago (+0/-0)

Very cool table.

[ - ] MuricaPersonified -1 points 1.3 yearsMar 7, 2024 23:57:40 ago (+0/-1)

Never was very good at pinball, nor found them all that fun to play.

That said, they're fascinating from creative and engineering standpoints. Watching a skilled player on a good machine is pretty neat.
