If the US did not have absurd rules against smooth-bore handguns, smooth-bore guns would be common as small game getters and anti-snake guns. Those smoothbore handguns would be very useful as anti-drone guns. But, because the NFA exists, anyone back by the US is at a huge disadvantage. It would take 50 years of R&D to catch up with where we would have been.
Imagine a FPV suicide drone comes at you, and you have a select-fire machine .44 Magnum pistol (think Desert Eagle, but with a larger magazine capacity and with an extendable/foldable stock) pumping out the equivalent to .410 shotshells. The recoil is straight back, preventing muzzle rise. That's what could have been.
Instead, we have 9mm Barettas and Glocks shooting single projectiles, in semi-auto.
Even a .45LC/.410 revolver would be better than what they have right now.
Have you ever seen a Thomson Contender? Such a beautiful weapon. It is a single shot, breakdown gun, which is what op is bitching about, I think. Got my first squirrel with a Contender, and I practiced until I was pretty fast at reloading. Still, though, not the same as a semi-auto.
