Field report: Easter Sunday version

submitted by WNwoman to whatever 1 yearMar 31, 2024 14:48:28 ago (+10/-0)     (whatever)

My family attended an Easter service today at a new church and I am feeling conflicted about a lot of things so I need to just type it all out.

Background- I was raised in an extremely fundamentalist Christian church, pretty much a cult. After I married a man outside of the cult I just avoided religion altogether. When we had children we decided we wanted the community of a church so we have attended semi regularly as a family. I appreciate the structure, the positivity and the community of those that share similar values and beliefs.

That being said, since having my eyes opened to the truth about our world and the J question, I’ve become very cynical and don’t really know what I believe anymore about Christianity. There’s a constant internal battle between the brainwashing of my youth and the reality of current events. I loathe how most Christian churches today have become more about giving to the brown people and accepting the degenerate behavior that’s so rampant.

We decided to try a new church today that just moved into a new building. Things I liked:

Everyone was very welcoming
Everyone was dressed nicely. The church we typically attend dresses down and you see ripped jeans and baseball hats everywhere.
The music. The singers sang regular hymns and appeared to be sincere, not showing off. The church we typically attend has a wanna be rock vibe with trendy clothes, fake worship and you can tell they are getting off on the attention.

Even though I’m an older millennial, I’m very traditional about the above things, as is my husband.

I just feel so torn. I teared up today wishing I was a true believer. Sometimes I wish I could go back to blissful ignorance. But we all know that once you’ve seen it you can’t go back.

Has anyone here felt similar? Any advice?

churches with coffee bars creep me out. i call the churches you're talking about skinny jeans churches. i attend church many times a week. wherever two or more are gathered talking about God, you got a church.

Thanks, nigger! I’m stealing “skinny jeans churches”. You’re legendary.

If there are a few members of the Asatru Folk Assembly in your area you can have all the community of a pro-European church but none of the downsides of a holy book written by jews.

I have attended a lot of different churches both as a member or a guest of friends and they all have the same problem, the people.

And I'm not an expert, at all, on what church is right or best. But those pentacostals.....whewwwww laddy! and maybe they're right, who knows? The "right" church is different for everyone.

The problem is the people who attend them, the cliques and the non believers. The overly righteous on Sunday and back to sinning again on Monday all while they claim, "imma Christian!" as if that means I can trust them.

You're looking for good people, not perfect mind you, just good and you want your church to practice in a way that's within your beliefs instead of trying to sell you something.

Good luck.

they all have the same problem, the people.

The fundamental problem with our species is the near-universal low level of cognitive function. It taints every human endeavor.

I don't want to influence you either way but I've had my day with the "religion cult" and just couldn't do it anymore...the biggest hypocrites I found were all cloaked in their biblical beliefs and had no hesitation condemning someone based upon a woke narrative reason...all the friendly smiles, sincere handshakes and excruciatingly polite words and gestures meant nothing when church was over..."ET TU BRUTO"???...too many church goers are armed with knives...that's jyst my position.

What’s wrong with arming yourself with a knife? Jesus said to sell your cloak and buy a sword. He also said He came not to bring peace - BUT THE SWORD.

I agree that hypocrite faggotkikes are abound in any given church - but you should expect that EVERYWHERE you go. Don’t let your guard down.

@SummerBreeze..."What's wrong with arming yourself"???...I'm stating metaphorically, have you ever heard of the expression "the circus clowns are armed with a knife"???, it actually goes back a hundred years...the term "clown world" is not a recent one, back in the days of "The Grapes of Wrath", the circus was a distraction from the misery and with the distraction came frauds and swindlers, people laughed at the clowns and their goofy behavior and nobody had concerns for their or their kids safety until the theft, rapes, beatings and robberies began but the circus atmosphere interfered with survival instincts and the people who were sloppy in their lack of vigilance were the targets, the circus and the clowns had a hypnotic effect, instead of being a fun time at the circus it became a life threatening possibility hence the term "clown with a knife"...and I know of the quote in Mathew 10-33/35/35? think not that I come in peace, I bring a sword(circa)...also I think you've misquoted the words of Jesus re the sword, and I think it's in Luke where he states "for he who has no spear on his mantle let him put one there" (something like that, it's been a while)...but this is the problem I had with the church, I was with the Jehova Witnesses for 5 years but have been active in the United Church for 40years of my life...I woke up 30 years ago with all my time in the 3rd world, none of it made sense anymore and the phrase "God works in mysterious ways " just wasn't the answer(s) that I needed.
The belief in the "biblical God and Jesus" stifles people and renders them practically useless, if the story of humanity is of God's doing then it's a cruel joke...an almighty, all knowing, jealous but loving God would not create a defect (in his own image) just so that he can watch that defect suffer like this...and the "man's eyes were opened" (upon not adhering to God's orders) argument doesn't cut it...I find that many "believers" have no common sense, they need to follow someone because they're unsure of themselves or incapable of making things happen....BUT IT'S A METAPHOR...and I'll leave it at that.
everyone walks their own path but I choose to not follow

churchianity is the worst.

I too was in church today. Easily the 'worst' dressed person there. 'Sunday best' suits should be seen as bourgeois BS.

Pretty simple,you are not saved.
Not judging you, just looking at the fruit you openly displayed.
You are just playing church,Jesus is not your Lord.
