The CEO, who was hiring for an investment analyst position

I surely want someone in finance or who makes decisions about finance to not be a complete retard. 90 minutes in Excel should be nothing for a potential high-five or six figure income.

[ - ] observation1 0 points 6 daysMay 13, 2024 18:16:31 ago (+0/-0)

do you also believe the applicants who didnt get the job owe the ceo his time back?

I didnt think so.

Circumcision is barbaric.

It's illegal to ask for free work during and interview

[ - ] Salacious_Salicylic 2 points 2 weeksMay 2, 2024 22:58:25 ago (+2/-0)

The applicant was professional and asked a reasonable question.

Boss is more interested in preening than running the business. Its a mindset that enables jews in an economy.

No thanks.

Back in the day, I was an engineer.
Common interview practice is to solve some BS engineering problem during the interview.
It's a quick way to weed out shitheads when there are 100 applicants.

The trick is, if you are an employee looking for work, hire a head hunter (not a recruiter).
The head hunter's job is to cut through the interview BS and put you directly in a seat.
They are expensive, but it's the difference between being 1 out of 100 nobodys and an instant somebody.

[ - ] Cantaloupe 1 point 2 weeksMay 2, 2024 22:08:39 ago (+1/-0)

If someone is looking, they probably scheduled eight interviews in a week,

If a company wants a free two hours of work from them (which is illegal) probably few will put up with that.

And if a company has a corrupt culture, working there won't be good anyhow.

[ - ] bobdole9 0 points 2 weeksMay 3, 2024 08:38:05 ago (+0/-0)

free two hours of work

A skills test is not anything billable...it's a way to prove what your resume states.

[ - ] Cantaloupe 0 points 2 weeksMay 4, 2024 21:42:18 ago (+0/-0)

It depends, what they ask.

In some cases people have split up an effort and had candidates complete the work.

You have to consider is it a skill test or usable work.

Why are people not approaching the kid to ask for his help and expertise?

[ - ] Nietzsche 1 point 2 weeksMay 2, 2024 21:05:27 ago (+2/-1)

Passing pre-hire hoops is necessary. It's better to work with well vetted coworkers that collaborate than a place that takes in trash and the 80/20 rule reigns.

80% nogs 20% workers?

[ - ] bobdole9 0 points 2 weeksMay 3, 2024 08:33:50 ago (+0/-0)

Kid is learning if you want big money, salary positions require big effort.

Unless told up front, skill tests like this are only given to those who are already preferred by the employer.

[ - ] bobdole9 0 points 2 weeksMay 3, 2024 08:25:36 ago (+0/-0)

I had skills test at the agencies I worked for. There's a few good ways and a lot of stupid ways to build code.

Kid is already likely 90% of the way there, show what you know before employer says yes. Now employer will consider someone lesser but is willing to do the test.

If the job was manual labor, employer can go fuck themselves.

I have taken many technicals and they always suck. Some I have spent 2 days working on. If you don't know the data, you need to start discovery which can take 90 minutes on an enterprise level ask. I have had intentional bad data "gotchas". Absolutely infuriating.

The kid was asked to take a 90 minute test in Excel.
Imagine it's a different job.

It'd be perfectly acceptable for a company to make an applicant take a welding test, and prove how good they are.
It sounds reasonable for a mechanic shop to take a candidate into the back and say, "This car just came in with this problem, walk me through what you'd do and how you'd troubleshoot it". Going from car to car for an hour and a half.

It sounds like the kid got found out. That they over exaggerated a bunch of bullshit on their resume, and never thought they'd get called out on it. So they ducked out the first chance they had.

You don't get paid for an interview. And a test is just part of the interview.
And the fact that the kid wasn't willing to put an extra 90 minutes into the interview shows that they knew they wouldn't get the job if they did.

[ - ] Love240 3 points 2 weeksMay 3, 2024 01:18:29 ago (+3/-0)*

I agree. I doubt the employer is fishing for applicants to do the 90 minutes of work in an excel file because it's work that needs to be done, they're doing it because they already know the answer and know that it should take 90 minutes and if they are worth a single pay-check they better be able to do this simple task.

A 5 minute task would probably have been more ideal, but plausibly some things just can't be reduced down and simulated in such a small amount of time.

[ - ] Not_C 1 point 2 weeksMay 3, 2024 05:15:05 ago (+2/-1)

they're doing it because they already know the answer and know that it should take 90 minutes

Yep.
In the article it says -

"Stanfield said if an applicant couldn’t complete the task in 90 minutes then they “weren’t the right person” for the job."

They were asking them to take a 90 minute test. It's not like they were asking them to work a 40 hour week for free.

[ - ] Salacious_Salicylic 2 points 2 weeksMay 3, 2024 11:05:44 ago (+2/-0)

And that is the kind of thing you do at a 2nd interview, when you are in the top 10 for the job. My time is valuable, and I'm not wasting an hour and a half of it on some fuck that's just trying to fill the legal requirements before importing a bunch of curry-niggers that will undermine the labor market further while shitting up our land.

Did you even read the article? A weld test takes half an hour tops or they need to start paying for it. In the mechanic example, if I'm doing this in shop for you, you're paying my requested hourly rate to look at your customers cars, or I'm gonna look at them and tell them I can fix it for half of what you will.

Fuck you, pay me.

[ - ] Not_C 0 points 2 weeksMay 3, 2024 17:16:00 ago (+0/-0)

Did you even read the article?

I did. Did you?

It said - "Stanfield said if an applicant couldn’t complete the task in 90 minutes then they “weren’t the right person” for the job."

importing a bunch of curry-niggers

That's how you prevent the hiring of curry-niggers. You give everyone a test that is impossible for the curry-niggers to pass.
If you don't give them the test, then they'll cry RAAAYCISM!!!

The whole point of the test is to bypass DEI. It weeds out the idiots, and also the lazy ones who'll go on to cry about how they should get paid the same as the competent employees in the name of equity.

Do you prefer the taste of straight leather, or do you prefer polishing the boots for your master first so you get a bit of a waxy aftertaste?

[ - ] Not_C 2 points 2 weeksMay 3, 2024 05:05:59 ago (+3/-1)

What do I prefer?

I prefer that worthless degenerates stay in the gutter and not show up in the workplace.

The CEO, who was hiring for an investment analyst position

A position that deserves extra scrutiny and "proof of skill"...guess "bullshit walks" is true.
