G3 size
1 is smallest

5 is most powerful

Still might see some effects but likely no Carrington scale stuff although the Earth's magnetic field is weaker so could be more effects than normal.

30% loss in the em field in ten years. I think we'll see something

I think a magnetic flip is in our future. And I mean our future.

[ - ] KosherHiveKicker 2 points 1 weekMay 9, 2024 14:18:41 ago (+2/-0)

We know that the magnetic poles drift a ~1-2 meters every year. We don't have any geological proof that they have/can flip drastically within a few days time.

The amount of energy required to flip the poles 180' from a single solar flare is unimaginable. Even if there was a wave of successive flares over a few days time I doubt it would happen. The mass of the Earth's solid metal core is unreal, and moving on multiple axis's.

Imagine trying to reverse polarity of solid metal ball with static electrical field from thousands of miles away. It's mind boggling to even consider the amount of energy needed to be transferred, at that distance.

Uhh, that's where we get the proof that they flip. From geological evidence.

[ - ] KosherHiveKicker 2 points 1 weekMay 9, 2024 15:03:17 ago (+2/-0)

No.

We have absolute proof of them drifting short distances every year, and over time. We know that the poles have inverted in the past but it was a slow process, and it was combined with plate tectonic drift as well.

What we do NOT have is evidence of a overnight "flip", or one occurring within a few days time.

We have absolute proof

No, you simply "trust in the experts" and regurgitate statements that have been published.

I've read multiple books that put for the idea of a nearly instant-24hour geomagnetic pole shift.

NONE of them offer proof of instant shifts. The will say it is possible but we don't have any concrete geological record that supports it.

At best they can support large shift happening over a few years time. Which is supported by the magnetic material found distributed in rock layers.

This event is definitely one to keep an eye on and be prepared for, but it is unlikely to cause any widespread issues. The big on is coming though. My personal guess is the 2035 cycle peak will be the wild time, but it absolutely could be soon or even the peak following 2035.

The Sun is flat.

Solar storms are Q level propaganda. They are not a threat to anything. Bigger "storms" have hit earth, recently, with zero effect.

A lot of mitigations are in place in the US electrical grid to prevent solar storms from inducing EMF in transmission lines, reducing the impact. Communications lines are now mostly fiber or underground so they're protected. Not impossible some rural areas (like mine) don't get hit hard though, depending on whether those mitigations have been put in place.

Some time in the early 2000s, maybe 04 or 03 on an early morning deer hunt in central Texas we could see and hear the northern lights. One of the most surreal experiences I’ve had.

OMG! Solar storms!!?? What are we to do..??????

Yep,put this on the shelf with: covid,global warming,oil depletion,ect,ect,ect.

95% of goats haven't left their mother's basement in 5 years.
The Sun is about as real as birds.

The Electromagnetic interference might interfere with some signals related to communication systems, but it will not be strong enough to actually cause physical damage to equipment.

This is pure fear mongering just like Y2K, Ebola, Swine Flu, Climate Change, Covid-19, and Monkey Pox.

Solar storm Sun, Won’t you come

this would oddly explain why my hard drive just took a shit and had to be told to repair itself just this morning.

Could be our last weekend. o/

[ - ] drstrangergov 0 points 1 weekMay 9, 2024 13:35:05 ago (+0/-0)

Probably isn't. We'll see.

[ - ] Sector2 0 points 1 weekMay 9, 2024 13:43:18 ago (+0/-0)

Even if it is strong enough, odds are still that it would only fry the side facing the sun for the hours when it hits. Last time, the drifting north pole did a 180.
