I have relatives that live in the North Dallas area.
After all of the bullshit went down 2 years ago with rolling blackouts, and price-gouging during shortages they installed 2 natural gas powered electric generators for their home. They will take over automatically if there is an outage, or they can simply switch over to any time they wish to avoid risking paying +$1,000.00 power bills.
One natural gas generator is ready to power their home at all times. The second generator is wired and ready to roll but serves as reserve, or will take over if they first one needs to be serviced.
Or build your own solar system, assuming you have the skills for it. If not, get a friend with those skills and have him advise you so you don't set your house on fire.
