I hear about these kei trucks - Japanese 2 seaters. Any experience? Are there better models/brands to look for?

They're common in the Caribbean...they're actually pretty decent...there's no problems transporting 3 bodies, filled with lead, and a 50lb bag of sweet potato.

I've been looking to buy one for a while. They all seem pretty comparable in quality and function. Big difference is between carbureted and fuel injected engines. And then the feature you want, like 4x4, AC, dump bead, and so on.

Honda Acty seems to get good reviews. I personally don't have any experience with them though.

I rented one a few times when I lived in Japan.
They are good for light duty.
Don't expect them to be more than they are.

they are golf carts. from what i understand they use lead acid batteries. i don't think they are that high tech.
