If you stand way back and look at 'modern society' as a whole, you'll see cattle and ranchers. Most of the cattle are too invested in 'their lives' to be able to stand back far enough, but it is what it is.

Wasn't much different in older ages, but they lacked the instant worldwide communication and mind control technologies.
