Low hanging fruit article, full of conjecture and the lazy conclusions.

The modern equivalent is the "learn to code" democrat platforms.

All jobs have the potential to be eviscerated by social and technology tectonic shifts, and the populace must adapt.

Wasn't the US 90% farmers in 1900? In 100 years the US went from 90% rural to 95% or so urban. Did quality of life suffer? One can definitely argue everyone is more a slave now than back in 1900, but what about the quality of life?

Rome grew on conquest, which needs soldiers. Conquest also brought slaves and new economic classes. The writer picks the Punic War era, when many of Rome's soldiers were killed in battle and tries to equate farmers unfit for military duty and the rise of slave farms as the sole reason for poverty.

The 21st Century equivalent article is "Fast Food Workers Driven to Poverty by Robots".
