Before the war Germany had given Austria an absolute promise that they would back them in any war, in theory as a defensive pact. Austria knowing this (a few people within Austria knowing this), decided this was an excuse to attempt maximum chutzpah, and wrote a very jewish letter for a Germanic state to write, demanding the fucking sky or there would be war. Very much an offensive move for it to take. Well the rest is history.

So the pattern we need to sell normies on that they are primed to take is you cannot have a defensive pact with an offensive ally. If you present it to them as a general principle that works no matter who the parties are they will be able to navigate any fears they have that they might be committing a hate politic for not backing Israel.
