Many of these young guys go in looking for adventure or because there is a proud tradition with their families doing it. Some do it for love of their country, but I bet that number has dwindled in the last 40 years in the US. Nobody respects those in power, even the fatheads.

Yep. Over on watchpeopledie, there is a ton of archived footage from both the Russians and Ukrainians. This is very typical of a drone bombing- usually, their targets are all fucked up already, and then they drop one or two more directly on them or right next to them to finish them off.

This explosion was a bit more spectacular than usual- I'm guessing that both men had explosives (grenades?) on them, and the drone's bomb caused a secondary blast which sent their bodies in bits in all directions.

Whenever I see footage like this, I'm thinking "Where the fuck is everyone?!" There are TWO Ukrainian men there, and usually not another in sight. Drones will zoom way out and often reveal this. Either the entire fucking unit is dead or maimed, or they abandoned a few squads and hauled ass out of there.

In war maiming is better than killing, as it draws more resources from the enemy to care for the wounded, and creates a higher degree of demoralization of enemy forces.

My father fought in 'Nam, and he would tell me that this was how the NVA/VC beat us.

Hypothetical: 6 US troops are ambushed by 3 well-hidden, dug-in Viet Cong fighters. If the VC shoots one of the Americans dead, that takes him out of the fight, and maybe 2 more guys will try to carry him away from the fighting. They've taken 1-3 men directly out of the fight. But what if they shoot to wound, or design their booby traps not to kill, but rather to maim?

A wounded man will take about 2-4 other men to help him. By wounding someone, leaving them screaming in agony, you cause more chaos among the enemy. But this is also a long-game play: a dead soldier costs $0 to support, his family will get some kind of payments... but a soldier who had both of his legs blown off? He's going to be a burden on his own country, draining resources from us. This is more of a guerilla style strategy, for fighting against a foe which is far superior in most ways. You've got to get dirty, nasty, brutal to overcome a superior force.

The larger force, however, doesn't benefit much from wounding the enemy. The best that comes out of wounding them is being able to capture them, and potentially get information... but most people that end up captured won't have any intelligence that your vast spy network isn't already well-aware of. Guerilla forces need to be killed, to a man, and that's why not even the USA can defeat the North Vietnamese or the arab forces- our side follows rules that the other does not.

They're not interested in simply 'wounding' to tie up enemy resources - it has gone far beyond that. They are willfully exterminating each other.
Both sides have been gaslit by multiple occurrences and videos of tortured soldiers being shot with their hands tied.

Everyone hates the drone operators on both sides however after watching a lot of these type of videos I think what happens a lot is that the drone operator sees the wounded enemy and knows there is no way they will get medical attention and knows they will die soon in agony. So they give them a mercy killing. Otherwise tactics would dictate that you conserve the ammunition and every solider knows that a wounded solider takes up more resources and man power to deal with so let them stay wounded. One can also watch other enemy solders come out of hiding places to help and so you draw more in like bait. But they don't do that many times.

What makes you think that? I've seen a lot of drone bombing footage from both sides, and it seems the Russians use these drones that always show that error message about lighting or w/e right after they drop the explosive.

There is actual footage of Ukrainians shooting fleeing Ukrainians, acting as a blocking platoon, WW2 style. You can find that footage on WPD.

Could be, but it actually appears to me like the guy on the right is severely wounded and his friend on the left has a fucked up right leg. I think they were playing dead and trying to stay warm at the same time. Russian drone spotted them moving and finished them off.

Both sides execute the wounded with drone bombs all the time. It's pretty disturbing to watch. You'll see a squad of about six guys, bomb drops, they all go down, riddled with shrapnel. Legs and arms are bent at weird angles, you can see their uniforms soaking up their blood. They all crawl or get up and try to scatter, and then the drone bombs them one by one.

They'll bomb a guy who is clearly out of the fight, both arms blown to shit, laying face down, weapon missing- drop a grenade on his ass, blow him in half. It's pretty damned horrible, but I suppose this is "real war". The wars we fought in Iraq and Afghanistan were like... "play wars", with so many fucking rules it could be a boardgame.

Not so in the Ukraine. Rules? Prisoner's rights? Allowing people to surrender? LOL
