What I wrote in another post on the moon:

"First of all, much of the tech to go to the moon the first time was built only for that purpose, so when you abandon that project for decades, you have to rebuild all the tech. Second, we spent like 10x more going to the moon the first time in a race against Kennedy's end of the decade deadline, and against the Soviets. There's no rush now, and no correspondingly huge budget. Third, the mission parameters have changed. They're not just repeating what was done in the Apollo missions. And of course there's all the modern diversity bullshit, more bureaucracy, etc."

Shows 98 (let's call it 100) launches in 2023. Let's be generous and say a launch every 3 days. Hmm, well but only 5 of those 100 launches are for the Falcon 9 Heavy. And what's this on the legend at the bottom? "Used Falcon 9". Weird, I don't see any of those being launched. But we're talking Starship, their biggest spaceship ever, which isn't even fully implemented yet, and not only are you going to need roughly a dozen launches, you're going to have to dock these puppies in space to refuel cryogenic fuel while in orbit, something that's never been done before.

And too bad you didn't watch the rest of the video, because the fun doesn't stop there. You have to land this puppy safely on the moon's uneven surface standing upright without tilting over, something that has never been done before. SpaceX had plenty of problems getting their reusable rockets to land correctly on Earth, and that's on even launch pads built explicitly for that purpose.

Then there's also the six-day elliptical orbit around the moon, but we won't talk about that. Or the giant elevator that needs to be in the rocket to get them down and up to/from the moon's surface, but that's probably small potatoes compared to everything else.

This mission is fucking bonkers. But don't worry, I'm sure Artemis will be landing humans on the moon again in 2026:

"Artemis 2 will be the first crewed mission to orbit the moon in more than 50 years. Its new launch date is no earlier than September 2025. The following mission, Artemis 3, will be the first to return humans to the moon since the Apollo missions. Artemis 3 is now slated for September 2026."

We landed six times on the moon. And many countries have sent probes there. The reason we didn't go back after Apollo finished is because it's a giant fucking rock and a waste of money to go there. The only reason we're going there again is because Chyna is going.
