After addressing the Constitutional issues surrounding Ukrainian President Zelensky’s decision to remain in office beyond his four-year term, Putin delivered a brief but disturbing statement on NATO’s plan to fire long-range weapons at targets inside Russia. Putin made it clear that Russia would respond to these attacks and that the countries that provided the weapons systems would be held responsible. He also gave a very detailed description of how the systems work and how they require contractors from the country-of-origin be directly involved in their operation.

Putin then went on to lay out the exact goals of the incursion and within 1 month of the incursion, had met 90-95% of those goals. Since that time, the lines have changed very little, despite a counter offensive that got 250,000 Ukrainians killed in a month.
NATO is not capable of doing anything to stop Russia in Ukraine, and will do very little if Russia were to retaliate against an attack in Russia using NATO or US weapons.
One of the stated reasons Russia invaded was because the Russian government was asked to intervene by regional authorities in Ukraine who were opposed to the Ukrainian government using "Nazis" (what every western media outlet in the planet called the Azov Battalion up to 6 months prior to the invasion) to kill their own people who refused to go along with the western backed coup against the democratically elected leader in 2014. The Ukrainian government had violated agreements to stop this killing.
However, that was only 1 of the reasons given, and not even the first one, or the main one.
The CIA was operating bases along the Russian border in Ukraine to subvert the Russian government and the US was operating biological warfare labs along the Russian border, which posed a threat to Russians near that area, and every human in the planet.
The US and NATO was campaigning to have Ukraine join NATO, which no Russian polician would suggest is acceptable. In fact, the incursion could have been avoided completely, had NATO signed an agreement to no longer court Ukraine to join. So stated by the head of NATO.
Before the incursion 1. Cannot join NATO 2. Cannot join the EU 3. No more killing ethnic Russian Ukrainians
After the incursion 1. Cannot join NATO 2. Cannot join the EU 3. No more killing ethnic Russian Ukrainians 4. Donbass is an independent region and if they vote to join Russia, will be a part of Russia.
