Quality over quantity. If those peoples could make a functioning country, maybe then they could sustain their conquest. The conquest of a nation goes much further beyond simply flooding it with invaders. The only way they win is by mixing and therefore integrating with the native population, or by outright killing the native population. Both the invaders and the native population are growing increasingly resistant to the former, and nobody can bring themselves to openly call for the latter.
The worse things get, the more people will be dissatisfied. People tolerate what is happening now because it hasn't become completely unbearable to them. It sure can (and will) get much worse. People's attitudes will adjust accordingly, or they won't be able to make it.
Sure, but everyone is noticing the drop in quality of life. Things will only get worse as time goes on, and at a much faster rate. This coupled with clear information regarding how much better things were 5, 20, 50, etc. years ago, and I doubt the bread and circuses charade will work as well as it has in the past. All that's needed is people skipping just a few meals.
Right, most people are still atomized today, largely because there is no sense of national community. However, in times of survival, tribal instincts make themselves known. We have the same genes in us that our ancestors did, the same instincts, they are just heavily suppressed as of yet. They will come out when needed.
From personal experience and observations in my area, people are really seeing the merit of community thinking. People are really viewing their neighbors as teammates. This is because they realized that they will have to count on those around them to increase their odds of survival.
Once said hypothetical enemy is dealt with there needs to be a plan going forward, however for the time being that's all that's needed; hate and reaction are very powerful tools, when channeled correctly.

These people can make a community and they are. Us cities are becoming more and more segregated as they turn up. Staten Island for example has shuttered multiple hotels on wild Ave and turned them into refugee centers.
