Floridian cowboys called themselves crackers. They may or may not have owned slaves, but men in central Florida that wrangled wild horses were definitely known as crackers. There's still wild horses here today, some call them feral, but I call them wild. I've been within ten feet of a clan of them. We have buffalo too, never got closer than 100 yards of those fuckers. They're big and they can hit 30 mph in a sprint.
