Today I heard of someone who went into a restaurant and enjoyed a two leg bbq chicken meal with fries and drink which came to around $25. They pretended to have left their card at another establishment and looked genuinely concerned and worried. The manager then allowed them to quickly leave to see if they could find it or come back with cash. The manager was told they would return in about 15 minutes. It was executed so masterfully the restaurant didn't even ask for a phone number or anything. To fill ones stomach with good food feels youthful, like an urban revolutionary. We should all engage in dining n' dashing - free food never tasted so good!
Article on illegalism by the way. I'm an illegalist and recommend reading Stirner's main work. Then again I've become an anarchist. Anarchism that'll actually work, that is.
Obviously I'm a lifestyle anarchist. Emphasis on lifestyle. Even the guys at Iron March put great emphasis on developing alternative lifestyles. Lifestyle is critical to challenging normie, mainstream, bourgeois, bullshit society.
Met a transient at a Presbyterian church who recommended this to me shortly after you did. He said there are just so many restaurants that you never run out of options.
So far I've opted for ground scoring, shoplifting, and more recently: use of food pantries and soup kitchens. Occasionally randos walk up and give me money. It's funny to think I've survived on less than $100 over the last 9 1/2 months. Granted, almost 5 months of that was in solitary confinement...

If you're in a metropolitan area you can literally go many months dining n' dashing with the variety of restaurants available. And this might seem obvious, but a few things to keep in mind.
The types of restaurants best suited are casual dining; think TGIF, Red Lobster, Denny's, Red Robin etc. Don't go to overly fancy restaurants, they give you small food portions anyways.
Don't order alcoholic beverages. You are more likely to get away and gain leniancy if you're just eating food and a soft drink. Ordering beer and $15 martinis is less likely to get you sympathy or leniancy. Ordering one meal and a soft drink is something the business is more willing to overlook since the soft drink doesn't cost them anything and food is minimal but once you start ordering alcohol that cuts right into the business profit margins and harder to justify.
Someone I know has literally gone months and months going to different eating establishments all over, never the same place twice.
But you should also look presentable and be showered with clean clothes so you don't immediately stand out as homeless. Sneaking into gyms to shower is quite easy.
And be cool when you're inside the establishment. Just act normal and casual. Don't seem too hungry or eager because that can be an early red flag for restaurant staff that you are a potential dine n' dasher.
The transient dude said you could just tell them you have no money and walk out. That they can't arrest you. After my last warrant check I'm pretty convinced I'm bullet proof but I still prefer as 'doctrinal' of an approach as possible. The guerilla's motto is take what you need. No more than that. I may not need to opt for this approach.

Saying you left your credit card at a Starbucks or another establishment and looking concerned and worried if it's still there is easier then being totally upfront. You avoid the awkward conversation, it shortens the length of time you need to stick around and they will often understand because that's something that happens to many - they forget their card somewhere else. It also avoids having to try a debit or credit card you might have and waiting for it to decline and blah blah blah. Just pretend you're looking in all your pockets for the imaginary card and then tell them you need to leave to find it or you need to cancel it and will get cash instead. Look 'really' concerned and worried. Usually if you assure them you'll be back in 15-20 minutes max that should suffice. They usually don't even ask for any ID or phone number. And this might be obvious, but OBVIOUSLY leave the vicinity immediately after and don't loiter around the area. Don't go to the same restaurant twice and you should be fine.
Someone I know has done this for months and when they did a rough calculation of all the casual dining food they enjoyed from cheeseburgers, lobster, pasta, steak, chicken wings etc. it came to well over $2000 for just a few months. This person I know who was homeless was literally eating better on the streets then most people who are housed.
I think stealing should generally be avoided, especially shoplifting. Not only does it interfere with the business inventory numbers, it affects the normal economic cycle and profitability and therefore viability of said company. Even large businesses can be affected by ultimately closing and taking away vital jobs many in the community relied upon - such as Target, CVS, Whole Foods leaving San Fransisco and Manhattan wholesale from rampant sophisticated organized looting rings, so-called 'boosters' who empty whole shelves into duffle bags. It degrades the area and everyone has to pay a higher price to make up for the loss.
But if you're homeless and hungry and have no other means of surviving then there's nothing wrong with doing what you have to like using food banks, shelters, etc. As the Chinese proverb goes, 'there are no ethics in matters of hunger'. You cannot blame someone for stealing to meet their bare sustenance to survive under difficult circumstances. Even the stores don't want to press charges on those people. It's the professional criminal boosters who are ruining communities and livelihoods.

In that context dine n' dashing could be viewed as a revolutionary act. Non-white businesses would start to get terrified at approaching single white male customers looking for free meals. It would be funny as hell!
Lenin and Stalin also engaged in economic crimes to further their revolutionary lifestyle. Rosa Luxembourg was even a prostitute for the cause. But sometimes free food is just nice, even if you can afford it.

In addition I recommend reading these briefs on the anarchism glossary. You'll be glad you did. Become familiar with the concepts and people.

I wouldn't want to steal from a locally-owned franchise and would like others not to steal from me.
