I went on a deep sea fishing trip once and that choppy shit made me blow chunks. Had me weak to where I couldn’t even reel in a fish once we got where it was on. Never again, I’m good.

The only time I've gotten 'sea sick' is when some e-coli epidemic ran through the ship and they closed medical. Except for officers of course. Everyone cursed with the double-headed dragon.

Now imagine doing that in a wooden sailboat, for months, and maybe not dying along the way.

My uncle was a long shore man and was on those for months at a time. I asked him what his worst storm was. He said it was insane waves and they couldn't see down the hallway that ran down the ship because it was twisting so badly. I said how long did that last? He said 3 days below deck.

Yeah, looking down the hall seeing all the hatches waving around is something to see.

I'm good staying on land, thanks. Blizzards look way more appealing.

There are more enjoyable activities with a high risk of death.

People do r appreciate that a ship becomes a bridge that must support it's whole length when the bow and Stern are on the crests of high waves like that

Sailed out of San Diego on a 21 ft sailboat in 1986. In cyclone season. Four days out, the seas got rough as hell and my wife was puking, pissing and shitting herself, mostly over the side. Finally turned around and headed straight east. sailed right up on the beach sand in Mexico. American tourists saw us hit the beach and hop off. One American asked to buy the boat and my price was $200 starter money and a ride back to San Diego.

Never been on a boat since.

Rule of thumb is, figure how high the regular waves are, a rogue wave can be up to 3X as tall. Yeah, that'd be terrifying.

Almost peed myself watching that. The worst sea I was in was in 1984 on the Atlantic in a large troop transport ship with a "flat" bottom, that is, it didn't have a fairly pointed keel. The up and down movement of the stem and stern wasn't too bad because the sea wasn't as heavy as it was in the video, but we took some pretty good rolls, sometimes about 30 degrees. While walking the passageways, you always had to make sure you were by something you could grab on to during a roll.

I went kayaking today on the reservoir. Rather windy too. Waves were.... I dunno.... 5-7 inches. The spray off the bow of my kayak would get on my sunglasses. But the worst part? Didn't catch a damn thing.
