Gopher/Cat Update #3

submitted by TheOriginal1Icemonkey to whatever 1 yearJun 17, 2024 22:15:14 ago (+14/-0)     (whatever)

Well, it turns out momma cat has four kittens. We have five fucking cats now. Literally I was wishing for and asking around about a cat and now I have five. The kittens are about eight weeks old as I can see momma weening them by pushing them away. She must have had another location that she’s moving them from, into our pump house. Hell, maybe two more will show up.
I will be calling our mobile vet for spaying and neutering and then we'll be “farming” out some cats. I’m not feeding five of these fuckers.

I read the title and was sure it would be about adding some vintage Unix services to a personal website.

don't know much about your property but if you have outbuildings, maybe make them barn cats. One time I pulled into the driveway of the sister of my ex girlfriend, there are like 20 stray cats living in her barn. She is feeding them by just slamming a dozen eggs collected from her chickens into a pig trough.. Poor things, anyway, she grabs a small, sick kitten puts in in a shoe box and placed in on the front seat of my tacoma. i'm like wut the f, i don't need a cat. She says "make it a barn cat!" I had a barn with a couplf of goats, some chickens, so i'm like whatever. I took him to the free vet at the cat shelter, got it spayed and dewormed. Took it home and couldn't stand watching it pace aback and forth in front of the door, so let it in and it was a house cat from that moment on. She ruled the house too, I had a shelter mutt who would be sleeping in front of the wood stove, the cat would strut over, start chewing on the dogs tail and legs, the dog would get up and walk away and the cat would do a few donuts walking around on the dog mat, then splay out and sleep in front of the wood stove LOL

Well, these cats aren’t coming inside. We are feeding them well, with the expensive cat food from the pet store, no meow mix. We'll get momma cat spayed here pretty quick and try to pawn a couple of kittens off to the neighbors. Back in Sacramento I made the mistake of taking in a stray like you did. He turned out to be a cool ass cat. Really cool. Everyone liked “Brutus”. However, he was an interior/exterior kitty and would roam the neighborhood and get hurt, so vet bills. Also, he would come home late and knock on the screen door to come in at like 2am. I’d toss water through the screen at him. I guess I was kind of a dick. Problem is, the house was small and he’d keep me awake if he was indoors at night. He had access to the garage. I remember after about eight years, talking with a neighbor lady about eight houses down and finding out she had been feeding him the who,e time and thought he was her cat. She fed all the cats. She had even named him.

Only so long as they're fixed.

They don't eat much and if you only feed them breakfast they will hunt at night. My grandfather's dairy farm had dozens of feral cats and they only gave them a big bowl of milk each morning. Never saw rats or mice in the barn
