We used PHP a few years back. It’s a perfectly fine means of building a website.

Nobody is using PHP any more unless they are maintaining legacy code.
It's a dead language.
Every resource you waste on PHP is a resource you could have invested in Python, which is the clear winner in the interperated language space.

PHP was fine back in the 2,000's.
But it has no future.

I say this as a former PHP dev.

Wordpress is still big, lots o plugins. Avoid dead woocomerce (php) at all cost.
