Took apart the air fryer with my boy (3). It took all evening and we removed every screw on the entire thing. Turns out they are just heating elements with some fans. I actually like them as cooking devices but I have never used one. He loved it and we found a lot of cool parts. 2 light bulbs, 2 metal fan blades, a nice pot, heating element for burning the house down later, and a bell on a timer which was a huge hit. Maybe we will get the lights hooked up to some 9v batteries next, with our timer bell switch of course. Ding!

Don't forget to spend some time with your kids. Not everyone gets the opportunity and you can't ever get it back.

I have an air fryer and I love using it. But yeah, they're just electric stoves with fans. Convection ovens, basically.

Mine has a giant heatsink to act as a "grill" and keep the meat off the bottom to let the fat drip. It's good stuff, much smaller than the oven, and far easier to clean.

They are literally a rebranded counter-top convection oven, except instead of calling a "toaster oven" they decided that by marketing it as a "fryer" without oil would whip all the smooth-brains into a frenzy about the latest greatest product.

And yes, toaster ovens, whatever you call them, are just miniature convection ovens, and are awesome and quick and won't fill your food with free radicals unlike a microwave.

Wholesome.

I took the boy on a tractor ride today. He's just the right size and age to sit on my knee and enjoy the experience. We fixed a bumpy patch of dirt road, smoothed out a bunch of faggot gopher mounds, moved a burn pile farther away from a tree that probably needs to be trimmed, and added a few loads of dirt to a couple berms on the shooting range. He likes pointing at the birds that follow us around, and the neighbor's horses, which he calls "naayyy".

Same

I used to like to over power components from things I took apart with a cord with aligator clips and a power strip.
It's a good lesson about the difference between ac and dc current.

Actually just found a dc fan motor and a 9v. If you switch polarity, the wind blows in the opposite direction! Ha!

When I was a child, I took apart the Nintendo Entertainment System. That was a joy being able to scrub those pins down so the system would stop flashing on and off most of the time. Some years later, I soldered in a green LED.

This is the stuff you do when you have no money.

Not about the money. I need a kid that can figure stuff out. It doesn't matter how, just as long as it happens.

Get him an electronics kit like this, he'll learn all about analog circuitry while putting together fun projects.

They haven't made those since the 60s. There are updated kits though.

What age is this for?

[ - ] Gowithit 1 point 11 monthsJun 27, 2024 01:12:36 ago (+1/-0)

a bell on a timer which was a huge hit.

That is a big hit. You can use that for all sorts of fun shit.

Mary, you're the best parent ever.

Well, yesterday he was a shithead and stole an extra cookie so he was still a little salty about that experience. Lol.

I had one of those and it was so impossible to clean that I had to take it apart by drilling out the rivets or it was going to be a fire hazard around the top vent. They wired them in such a way that I couldn't get the top shell off without damaging the wires. I was so annoyed I never even put it back together. Threw it and swore to never buy any of their other products. My new air fryer is actually "field serviceable".

Glad y'all had fun. Maybe walk your kid through the concept of "field serviceable" and how to spot it (and more important spot not it). ;)

Everything is field serviceable, at least that's how I operate.

That's fantastic, love it.

Trips to the hardware store should be a blast.

I miss living close to Menards.

Once you quit porn, apparently. All those years you neglected your children because of your sick addiction, you can’t ever get them back

Did you find the thermal safety switch? That's an important part of any heating appliance.

[ - ] MaryXmas [op] 0 points 11 monthsJun 27, 2024 00:25:52 ago (+0/-0)

I thought it was a thermometer but maybe that's what it was. There also was a small 15a fuse I think. Also could have been the part you are talking about.

[ - ] Prairie 1 point 11 monthsJun 27, 2024 13:08:05 ago (+1/-0)

Here's something about them with photos: thermal cutoff..

[ - ] MaryXmas [op] 1 point 11 monthsJun 27, 2024 15:06:26 ago (+1/-0)

That's it!

I got my first bicycle at six years old, without training wheels, 20 inch, and a loaded tool box. I commenced to dismantling my bike asap.
Good times!
